“[State controlled] education is a weapon, whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.” – Joseph Stalin

"[I]f you serve a child a rotten hamburger in America, federal, state, and local agencies will investigate you, summon you, close you down, whatever.  But if you provide a child with a rotten education, nothing happens, except that you're liable to be given more money to do it with."

--Ronald Reagan

“Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.” - Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (1870-1924)

I believe that the bigger government gets and the more powerful the state becomes, the greater the threat to individual liberty and the greater the likelihood that evil will ensue. In the 20th century, the powerful state, not religion, was the greatest purveyor of evil in the world. – Dennis Prager

Sarah Palin and the Upcoming Election             By Theresa Camoriano

Sarah Palin was a great choice!  For the past couple of months, I mostly ignored the little on-line polls asking who you want McCain to pick for his running mate, assuming they were gimmicks and nobody would pay attention to the vote anyway, but near the end I took the bait and voted for Sarah Palin.  What a pleasant surprise to learn that McCain actually picked her!          (click to read more)

It occurred to me that she (Palin) is much better at the messiah business than BO. In the first 24 hours since McCain announced his selection, she performed two miracles: she had the leftists opposing pre-marital sex and claiming that a mother should stay home with her children. – from the blogosphere

Government income redistribution programs produce the same result as theft. In fact, that's what a thief does; he redistributes income. – Walter Williams

Secret ballots become an open target for Chandler             By Jim Waters

If U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler got his way, my senior class at Wabash High School would never have elected me its president.

Chandler wants to take away the rights of employees to cast secret ballots when voting on whether to allow labor unions in their workplace.           (click to read more)

To achieve energy independence, America will need every resource at our disposal, including nuclear power and the use of our abundant coal supplies that lie from Colorado to West Virginia. America has multiple choices in the great test of energy independence and the right answer is "all of the above." – John McCain

George W’s War         (from a reader)

No one likes war.  War is an horrific affair, bloody, and expensive.  Sending our men and women into battle to perhaps die or be maimed is an unconscionable thought.

Yet some wars need to be waged, and someone needs to lead.  The citizenry and  Congress are often ambivalent or largely opposed to any given war.  It's up to our leader to convince them.  That's why we call the leader "Commander-in-Chief".          (click to read more)

I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a "community organizer," except that you have actual responsibilities. I might add that in small towns, we don't quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening, and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren't listening. We tend to prefer candidates who don't talk about us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco. – Sarah Palin

Out of the four presidential and vice-presidential candidates this year, only Governor Palin has had to make executive decisions and live with the consequences. – Thomas Sowell
