A Few Notes – by Theresa Camoriano
Ron Paul is coming to Louisville Saturday, May 17, 2008. The details have not yet been announced, but you may want to reserve the date.
I am very grateful to people like Ron Paul, Norm Davis, John Riley, and Richard Lewis, who have worked so hard and sacrificed so much to protect our freedom. They are the true descendants of our founding fathers. Norm has managed to bring together various freedom-loving people, from motorcycle riders who want the freedom to ride without helmets, to gun owners who want the right to self defense, to property owners who want to control their own property, and he has brought their voices to our legislators in Frankfort as a volunteer citizen-lobbyist. He has earned the trust of our legislators, because he tells them the truth. And he has been very effective. Simply amazing!
Grover Norquists’s new book, Leave Us Alone – Getting the Government’s Hands Off Our Money, Our Guns, Our Lives, says the voters can be divided basically into two groups – the “Leave Us Alone” coalition and the “Takings” coalition. Norquist has excellent ideas for promoting freedom by growing the “Leave Us Alone” coalition and making it more effective. We are so fortunate in Kentucky that Norm Davis already has been doing a fine job of bringing a large portion of that “Leave Us Alone” coalition together. Many thanks, Norm – may you live long and prosper!
I did not do an issue of Jefferson Review last week, because I went to visit my daughter Nina at Virginia Tech for Easter and just ran out of time. I sat in on one of her engineering classes, and it was a pleasure to see so many bright young people and such an excellent professor. Nina is doing very well, majoring in mechanical engineering and Spanish, and tries to help mentor the younger students in her honors dorm. She has also become active with a group that is trying to get Virginia Tech to allow students with concealed carry permits to carry concealed on the campus. After the terrible tragedy there last April, in which some of her friends were murdered, Nina thinks the students and faculty should not be deprived of their right to self defense. Unfortunately, the people in authority don’t want to try the only solution that actually works to stop the bad guys.
As I get older, I find that I gain a sense of perspective about events, so I am trying not to despair as I contemplate the next four years with Obama, Hillary, or McCain as our next President. I also am learning a few things about aging, one if which I will share with you. I have been going to a “boot camp” exercise program trying to get into shape. After seven weeks of strenuous exercising and dieting, it appears that I will still be a fat old lady, but at least I will be a stronger fat old lady! During the course of “boot camp”, I have learned that the wrinkles on my face not only serve to show to the world how wise and experienced I am, but they also do a wonderful job of funneling sweat directly into my eyes! Ouch! If I really had acquired wisdom with my age, I would recognize this as an indication that old ladies should not be going to boot camp and exercising and sweating, but, as I have not yet acquired that wisdom, I just use a sweat band.
Have a great week!
