"[I]f you serve a child a rotten hamburger in America, federal, state, and local agencies will investigate you, summon you, close you down, whatever.  But if you provide a child with a rotten education, nothing happens, except that you're liable to be given more money to do it with."

--Ronald Reagan

[T]he law requires auto fuel efficiency standards to increase by 40 percent by 2020. Unfortunately, this goal is presently only achievable by reducing vehicle weight — but lighter cars are deadlier cars. So what’s the purported benefit of mandating 4,000 or more deaths per year? – Steven Milloy

A Christmas Gift for all Government Officials – a Bit of Humility              By Theresa Camoriano

Government officials have a lot of power; let’s hope that, in the new year, they will have the humility to use that power wisely.

Many people go into government with great intentions, wishing to make the world a better place.  However, while government’s power has a limited ability to do good, it also has a tremendous ability to do harm.  In fact, the most horrible atrocities in human history have been committed by government officials who had the arrogance to believe they could use their power to establish a heaven on earth.  Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot killed more than 100 million of their own people in their quest to make the world a better place through government force.               (click to read more)

Analyze the Pretext           By Gordon Francis Corbett

Imagine that a father and his son are having a dispute.  The father wants the teen to do "A," while the son wants to do "B."  To keep the teen's anger low and the discussion short, the father offers a pretext that is superficially plausible, but flawed.  The son, who does not know why his father likes "A," sees the flaw and works hard to exploit it.  Partly because his focus on the flaw keeps him from wondering why his father prefers "A," he loses the debate.               (click to read more)

'Be-shear' you know what you're getting before you buy          By Jim Waters

Gov. Steve Beshear talked a good game during his inauguration speech, but it’s wait-and-see for me.

I’ve returned too many political “purchases” after words led me to “impulse buying” but deeds sent me back to customer service.               (click to read more)

Fred Thompson seems to have the best policy positions and the best political track record among the Republican candidates -- and the least effective presentation of himself.  If Senator Thompson can beat the odds and become president, he would probably be better than most of those who have been in the White House in recent times -- though that is not extravagant praise.  – Thomas Sowell

A Few Wishes For A Happy New Year           By Theresa Camoriano

New energy boot camp to harness area’s natural resources, entrepreneurial talent

LONDON, Ky. -- Eastern and Southern Kentucky’s natural resources have fueled the nation’s electricity demands for decades – shipping products and profitability out of state.

A new program at Kentucky Highlands will harness those resources and identify untapped potential to help entrepreneurs create new businesses focused on renewable energy and energy efficient opportunities in Kentucky.               (click to read more)

Wednesday’s Republican Debate a Disappointment-By: Michael A. Minton

(See more of Mike Minton’s blogs at http://mrrightopinion.blogstream.com)

Well, what can I say? The best part about the Republican debate in Johnston, Iowa, yesterday was when it was over. And even that took way too long. The format was less than enviable, and the moderator, a local newspaper editor, Carolyn Washburn, was snappy, disallowed discussion of Iraq and illegal immigration-two obviously hot issues during the campaign-and I think down-right rude.               (click to read more)

U.S. House of Representatives Votes to Honor Ramadan…Some Tell Christians to Essentially Go To Hell           -By: Michael A. Minton

(Author’s note: I know this is a long article, but believe me, the time it will take you to read it will be only a fraction of the time and effort that went into researching and writing it-Mike a.k.a. Mr. Right Opinion)

The more I read about this story, the more it chapped my butt. Imagine my chagrin when I got the email stating ““Democrats who supported a House resolution to honor Ramadan voted against a similar resolution to honor Christmas and Christianity….” I about swallowed the wad of dip I had in my mouth at the time.               (click to read more)

Huckabee Comes Under Fire for Pardons as Governor          -By: Michael A. Minton

It would appear that Gov. Huckabee might be in a little hot water as his record of pardons and commutations begins to come to the attention of the press...and the public. Recently, there has been quite a bit of buzz about the former Arkansas governor’s pardoning of Wayne DuMond, who was convicted of raping a teenager in 1984. DuMond was subsequently sentenced to life in prison.               (click to read more)

It is not a stretch to reach the conclusion that politicians that want to make all of your health decisions for you and mandate every detail of your health care, no matter how personal, are really after ownership of your body. They think that if they pay for the care of your body (with money that they take from you), then they own it.   Richard E. Ralston
