Another Gun Tragedy – Call GUN11

By Cliff Johns

Again, a horrific tragedy has occurred when another nut got a gun and proceeded to murder innocent people.  Only this time it’s not in Beirut, Israel, or Baghdad but in Omaha some six months after Virginia Tech.  Eight good people are dead; five others are wounded.  It is hard to even imagine the loss and grief that means for so many families, friends, relatives and communities.    Each time people in these communities and everywhere ask “how can this happen here?”  While we empathize, cry and mourn at the losses, we know deep down it can happen anywhere, including where we live.

Tragedies aside for a moment.  Whenever such an event occurs, there is a flood of frantic calls to 911 pleading for help and channeling information to the authorities.  This 911 system is the first and only response we as victims and witnesses can depend on to call in the cavalry.  But, when the police do come, they are sometimes too late, as was the case in Omaha.

The Omaha victims were all murdered in cold-blooded fashion while holiday shopping in a mall.  The mall has signs on each of its entrances informing those who enter that guns are forbidden.  For the killers in Omaha and Virginia Tech, this is really a sign that tells them they can go inside and do a lot of killing, since everyone inside is unarmed.  Also, they know the calls to 911 will go out just after the killing begins, but they know they still have a lot of time before the cops can figure out where they are and how to neutralize them.

I propose abandoning the local 911 systems in each of these and every community and to adopt a new national program that is similar to 911 only in that you call this organization at the first sight of trouble and that that it be used not just to summon the police but to tell you as an armed person how to take out the killer.  The new system would be called GUN11.  When you call, you would immediately be connected to up to a hotline that is staffed by an expert in firearms, not just a crisis coordinator.  The GUN11 expert would then consult with you not how to hide behind a door or trash can but to access your state of mind as well as the caliber of your weapon to see if you are up to the task to take out the killer.  As other calls come in to GUN11, they would be immediately routed to other such experts around the country and even on the internet to retired police, FBI, ATF, Secret Service, CIA, NSA, Military and even gun shop owners, who would dispense expert technical advice on how to take down the killer or killers.  Talk about WE THE PEOPLE!  One thing’s for certain, that potential killers would know the first response is just moments away not minutes and that if they threaten you or anyone around you that you have immediate access to lethal consultation to destroy them even before the police can show up even if they can get there in just 6 minutes.

GUN11, in coordination with an armed populace who carries guns all the time including into places like malls, can save lives like yours.  The cowardly killers will be taken down and put out with a bang before they can ever again go out with a bang.

Lets make GUN11 an aggressive nightmare for killers.  Think of it as an Amber alert on steroids, and the next time you hear a gunshot don’t waste your time with 911 -- instead call GUN11.
