Don’t Force Taxpayers To Subsidize Games Jeff “Mario” Smith
Kudos to Dawn Cloyd for this excellent and correct observation.
http://www.kentucky.com/595/story/245206.html DON'T FORCE FAMILIES TO SUPPORT HORSEMEN I read in the Nov. 20 paper that the Horsemen arena-football team is asking the Urban County Government to subsidize parking and concessions to get more people to the games. Attending a sports event is a voluntary, recreational activity enjoyed by some and ignored by others. Please help me understand how it could possibly be just, moral or right to take money from one family's priorities and give it to another family's? A family has an income, expenses and priorities. Some choose not to attend because they can't afford it, meaning they have other plans for their money. Perhaps a family that has chosen not to afford Horsemen games has instead chosen to afford better education for their children, safer transportation, higher-quality food, a home in a better or safer neighborhood or any number of other things that they place a higher value on than attending the games. If it were cheap enough, some of these people might decide to attend, but please understand that you would be making it accessible to them by making other things inaccessible to families from whom that money is taken. The team cannot say that "all we are doing is asking for help" when the help it seeks requires that money be appropriated from working people who are pursuing different needs, values, wants, hopes, dreams and goals with their hard-earned money. Why should someone be forced to pay for another's preferences and choices? Dawn Cloyd
This is precisely the feeling I had when I read that there was a proposal to force taxpayer subsidies for the Horsemen games.
We are now into the third or fourth generation of Americans who have no concept of Liberty, from whence it came, and what it takes to maintain it. You can thank the indoctrination system masquerading as an education system for that one.
Free market capitalism does not work with government intervention but socialism is all about government intervention and redistribution of wealth schemes for whatever is politically correct at the moment. Look around, people, it wasn't socialism that made America great.
The Horsemen need a does of reality. They are nothing more than entertainers, and the public has chosen other venues for their entertainment or as Dawn states, lots of us, my family included, aren't into entertainment. Why should I be forced to pay for other people’s entertainment, so LEFTington can proclaim to the world that we are a “real city” with all the sports venues you could ask for? No thanks! Not interested! I don't buy into the lie that we need to compete and be more like Screwyville or Sin-Sin-nasty. If I was into entertainment, the last place I would look for it is downtown anyway.
And when do we tell the truth about all the empty buses running all around LEFTington with nobody in them other than the driver, or on rare occasion, a mere four passengers? What is the real cost per passenger? I would like to see an independent audit of this situation with that number exposed.
Should we paint the buses yellow so they will match the ridiculous "yellow bikes"?
This rant is written with the understanding that there are already other schemes whereby the "entertainers" are subsidized by our taxes, and it all needs to end. It is wrong!
