“[State controlled] education is a weapon, whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.” – Joseph Stalin

"[I]f you serve a child a rotten hamburger in America, federal, state, and local agencies will investigate you, summon you, close you down, whatever.  But if you provide a child with a rotten education, nothing happens, except that you're liable to be given more money to do it with."

--Ronald Reagan

“Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.” - Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (1870-1924)

Congress has been having hearings this week concerning the increasing number of late airline flights. Congress said they may have to intervene in order to help the airlines improve. And really, who better than Congress to show you how to make your business run more efficiently? — Jay Leno

Where The Money Is, and Executions          By Theresa Fritz Camoriano

1.       Where the money is - When asked why he robbed banks, Willie Sutton answered, "Because that's where the money is."  These days in the U.S., the money is in the hands of the middle class – their paychecks, homes, and other assets. This means that any major government program, from Medicare to Social Security, has to be paid for by taxing the middle class in some way.  Don’t let the politicians seduce you into thinking you can get freebies paid for by rich people, because it will never happen.  Even if the politicians taxed away 100% of rich people’s assets, it would be only a drop in the bucket. The rich just don’t have enough money.         (click to read more)

Federal watchdog test bites CATS

Do we get good data from Kentucky’s CATS tests, or do those scores mirror hot-air balloons - grossly inflated?

To find out, the Bluegrass Institute examined recently released 2007 mathematics and reading results from the National Assessment of Educational Progress.

What we found is as scary as 2+2=5.          (click to read more)

Correspondence With C-J’s Environmental Reporter Concerning Global Warming

Mr. Bruggers –

I am very interested in the environment and even took several environmental engineering courses back in the 1970’s when I was in college.  It is clear that you have bought into the idea that our release of carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels is causing the earth to heat up and will cause dire results, and that reducing carbon emissions from the burning of fossil fuels would have a substantial effect on reducing global warming and should be encouraged or required.  You seem to be depending upon the United Nations report as the basis for your position.           (click to read more)

What One Man Has Done            By Gordon Francis Corbett

Of all the prominent Birchers whom I have had the privilege of meeting, I know of few more qualified to discuss the Conspiracy than is Dr. Stanley Monteith.  He is a former Toastmaster.  I have attended a couple of his speeches, and they were wonderful, both in style and in content.  His voice is extremely pleasant.         (click to read more)

Let’s bag Big Brother, smoke out rights stealers and stay fat and happy           By Jim Waters

I wonder what some local politicians have put in their pipes and smoked.

I nearly drove off the road the other day when I heard Brian Nash, Bowling Green city commissioner, say during a radio newscast that the health benefits reaped by citizens from a proposed smoking ban in his city “outweigh” the Constitution’s personal-property rights.          (click to read more)

THEIR LIES WILL NOT PASS WITHOUT ANSWER         By Major Mark “Zippo” Smith (Retired)  Submitted by Jeff “Mario” Smith, Guerilla Reporter

BACK DURING THE VIETNAM WAR PEOPLE WOULD SAY 'LET’S DECLARE VICTORY AND BRING THE TROOPS HOME.'  BUT THERE WAS ALWAYS THE VVAW AND OTHERS WHO MARCHED UNDER THE ENEMY FLAG AND SCREAMED FOR THEM TO WIN. THEY JUST WERE LOOKED ON AS AN ABERRATION AMONG ALL THOSE 'HONEST LIBERALS.’          (click to read more)

In sum, protectionism makes our country poorer, while free trade makes us richer; protectionism’s inefficiencies reduce employment, while free trade’s efficiencies increase employment; protectionism curtails individual liberty, while free trade is an expression of liberty; protectionism corrupts justice, while free trade enshrines equality before the law. Free trade is no panacea, but I’ll take it over protectionism any day. -- Dr. Mark W. Hendrickson

Few people show the slightest interest in what has actually happened in countries with government-controlled medical care. – Thomas Sowell

"The great enemy of clear language is insincerity. When there is a gap between one's real and one's declared aims, one turns as it were instinctively to long words and exhausted idioms, like a cuttlefish spurting out ink." ---George Orwell

Imagine if your car insurance covered oil changes and gasoline. You wouldn't care how much gas you used, and you wouldn't care what it cost. Mechanics would sell you $100 oil changes. Prices would skyrocket.  That's how it works in health care. – John Stossel

"Were the expense of war to be defrayed always by a revenue raised within the year ... wars would in general be more speedily concluded, and less wantonly undertaken." -- Adam Smith
