“[State controlled] education is a weapon, whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.” – Joseph Stalin
"[I]f you serve a child a rotten hamburger in America, federal, state, and local agencies will investigate you, summon you, close you down, whatever. But if you provide a child with a rotten education, nothing happens, except that you're liable to be given more money to do it with." --Ronald Reagan
“Give me four
years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be
uprooted.” - Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (1870-1924) |
Not understanding the process of a spontaneously-ordered economy goes hand-in-hand with not understanding the creation of resources and wealth. And when a person does not understand the creation of resources and wealth, the only intellectual alternative is to believe that increasing wealth must be at the cost of someone else. This belief that our good fortune must be an exploitation of others may be the taproot of false prophecy about doom that our evil ways must bring upon us. — Julian Simon
Who Cares About Lorraine Hill? By Theresa Camoriano Lorraine Hill is a fifth-grade teacher who works for the Louisville public schools. She recently has filed a lawsuit against the school system, which refused to allow her to apply to transfer from Laukhuf Elementary to Cane Run Elementary, which is closer to her home, due to her race. It seems that, if Ms. Hill transferred to Cane Run Elementary, she would upset the “Singleton Ratio”, which requires that 11.9-21.9% of the teachers in the Louisville elementary schools be African Americans. If Ms. Hill were Caucasian or Asian, there would not have been a problem. The reason Lorraine Hill was not even considered for the transfer is that she is black. (click to read more)
The War That Isn't By Gordon Francis Corbett What we have in Iraq is a war that isn't. That is to say, it is a limited war. Limited wars are not true wars. They are clever and costly diversions that let politicians focus citizens' attention on combat while their diplomats bargain secretly. When third-rate countries like North Korea, North Viet-Nam, Syria, or Iran are involved, the bargainers include the belligerents' patron-sponsors. Here, as in the past, the patron-sponsors include Russia and Red China. (click to read more)
Blood-sucking bad ideas reappear in rearview mirror By Jim Waters Not even the arrest of “if-he-did-it” icon O.J. Simpson last week completely overshadowed Hillary Clinton’s attempt to replay the nightmare that Americans escaped the first time around – a government takeover of the nation’s health-care system. She first proposed her European-style health care model during the heady days of her husband’s presidency. (click to read more)
Socialized medicine is not the solution by Henry Lamb Despite the claims of socialists, Democrats and many others, there is no "right" to adequate health care. Rights are endowed by the Creator and are limited to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. All other so-called rights are manufactured by governments. Governments are not empowered to grant rights; governments can only limit or extinguish rights. Governments can, however, bestow gifts upon their citizens. But to do so, governments must first take resources from those who have earned them and redistribute those resources to others. (click to read more)
Tax aimed at lobbyists could empty lobbies By Caleb O. BrownThe City of Frankfort needs quick cash, but the plan to raise it could slowly kill business. Including mandated benefits for current and retired city employees, Frankfort’s payroll costs rise by $1 million each year in a city that spends just $15.5 million a year on payroll. Thus, the city needs the money. (click to read more)
The facts are in By Brett Gaspard America needs a strong leader, a stark contrast to Clinton and Bush. The largest voting block in our country is not made up of Republicans or Democrats—they are by far Independents. Our nation is at a crossroads. The average voter is simply fed up with the choice between neo-conservatives and neo-socialists, because in the end, they really aren’t that different. Who will rise up to fill this void? SEE YOU AT TEN By Major Mark Smith (Retired) I SAW YOU SMIRKING ON THE NEWS AT TEN--
MAKING A JOKE OF
THE WORK OF BETTER MEN.
By any measure of well-being, Americans at the start of this century are far better off than Americans at the beginning of the last century. Perennial doom-and-gloom predictions about resource depletion, overpopulation and environmental quality are exaggerated and often the opposite of the truth. Preaching doom and gloom has been beneficial to the political class. They use it to gain more power and control. – Walter Williams

The bottom line is, serious efforts to reduce CO2 will lead to lower living standards through higher costs of living. And it will be all for naught because there is little or no relationship between man-made CO2 emissions and climate change. – Walter Williams "The punishment of wise men who refuse to take part in the government is to live under the government of worse men." ---Plato A lifelong study of good and evil has led to me conclude that the greatest single cause of evil is people perceiving of themselves or their group as victims. – Dennis Prager
"The work an unknown good man has done is like a vein of water flowing hidden underground, secretly making the ground green." ---Thomas Carlyle
