The Cost of Freedom and Why it is Worth it

By Jeff “Mario” Smith, Guerilla Reporter

August 28th in the year of our Lord 2007

Attached herein is an email I received which originated at the computer of LTC Stephen J. Bouffard, one of our latest Gold Star Fathers in the War Against Terror. I am a military Dad and I am tuned in to the military family at large so I receive these emails all too often. It is never pleasant to deal with the loss of another in our military family, and it never gets easier. I have attended countless military funerals, many for men I did not even know, but respect beyond words.

Sometimes a phrase or sentence one hears rings through the soul like the Liberty Bell clanging one if by land or two if by sea. This email contains just such a phrase written by a man who has lost, no, sacrificed his son for the Freedom of others he does not even know. “Greater love hath no man than this, than a man lay down his life for his friends.” That is from the King James Bible book of John Chapter 15 Verse 13. It is timeless.

LTC Bouffard said it all when he said, "We do this Army stuff because there are things bigger and more important than ourselves." That is a statement that not only makes me sit back and take a deep breath; it makes me stand a little taller and a little prouder as an American. As a Veteran from a long line of Veterans whose son has gone into harm's way twice now in this war against islamo-fascism, I stand taller knowing that we military families do what we do because our cause is a noble one. As LTC Bouffard said, in his own way, it isn't all about us.

We don't whine and complain that things aren't perfect and our leadership is not what it could and should be. When our country calls, we answer, not for ourselves, but for our country, and those in other countries who do not have the ability or the tools with which to bring Liberty to their nations. We know that the battle between good and evil will not end until our Saviour comes back to retrieve His Church, or His Bride as the Bible so often calls us. We know that, at the very least, we cannot empower the evil ones by contributing to the breakdown of our own culture. We must stand firm as the rebar in the foundation of Liberty that this nation provides for the world at large, a Liberty that God Himself endowed to this last bastion of Freedom the world will ever know.

We don't criticize and whine in a time of war. We do what we can to help the cause. We are not the leaders so we cannot do what they do. But we do what we can do, whether that is facing the enemy under fire, supporting those who do, or standing behind our leaders in a time of war. We know that our country needs us and we know that we cannot be divided and thus empower our enemies against our country. We must have Victory First, and then we can go to the leadership once that has been accomplished and demand some change for the better. Life is never perfect but some things are clear as day.

To give our enemies reason to continue their evil battle against Freedom by loudly proclaiming our country is wrong, or our troops are wrong, or our mission is wrong, has to be the most selfish, foolish, negative, hateful, ridiculous thing that any person could do. How sad it must be to wake up every day and know that you are not a part of the mission against evil, which can only mean one thing; that you are a part of the mission against good, the mission against God Himself. Those who are on the left and give our enemies their support must feel like they are in a foreign land. One thing for sure, they are definitely MY countrymen. How sad.

How wonderful it is to know that when I step into my pants every morning after my visit with the Lord, that I am doing that of my own free will, not forced to do so by a dictator, or politburo, or some other form of slave-master whether it be of the socialist, communist, or islamo-fascist variety. I stand with our troops, our leaders, and with the knowledge that our cause is noble. I do it freely and after having thought it through. I could join the ranks of those that vociferously denounce our leaders and join their pack of hungry hyenas who pick at the meat of our nation to the celebration of our enemies because I know our leaders are not all perfect and do some things I disagree with, but I choose not to do that in a time of war because I am a Christian first, and American second, and an individual third.

That is a concept that our liberal friends and neighbors who so foolishly align themselves with our enemies, yet convince themselves that they are right, will never understand. The propaganda they have swallowed hook, line, and sinker and has become a part of who they are has emboldened them to stand firm for to open their minds and admit that they are being used by the counterfeiters who claim they are patriots would be to admit they are wrong and their fragile human egos will not allow that.

Liberals do not wish to feel the discomfort that comes with finally admitting they are wrong and moving past their naive views shaped by a propaganda machine we call a free press which is actually nothing more than a propaganda arm for the "information controllers" in our society who feed the sheeple a controlled diet of information 24 hours a day. They and their friends in academia and the whorish entertainment industry are indeed a force to be reckoned with, but it is a force for the empowerment of evil and debauchery the likes of which the leaders of Babylon would have been proud.

No matter how loud they proclaim their dislike of our country and our culture, liberals can never escape the fact that they were not there when their country needed them and worse they empowered their country’s enemies to continue the fight because America is divided. There is blood on their hands.

LTC Bouffard’s email:

Subject: Jeremy Paul Bouffard

To my Army Family,

I think it was Tuesday when I got the notification.
I literally thought my heart would stop beating.
I made phone calls to a short list of people.
They were my immediate family.
They were the people I had to make sure didn't hear this over the news.

You all, my Army Family, through COL White, was on that short list.

I want to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers.  It will be a
little while before I am able to get back to you individually, so please
forgive a group email.  Please forward it to our friends.

We will get through this.

For those of you who are going overseas now:

We will pray for you.

Jeremy's situation was too remote and immediate to allow medical care,
but you all will be in a position to help so many soldiers and service
members.  You will be in a position to spare so many families this kind
of loss.  Thank you.

For those of you staying behind:

All the more reason to train to be ready.

For all of us:

We will stick together.
We will be strong.
Keep prayng.
Don't lose faith.

We do this Army stuff because there are things bigger and more important
than ourselves.

I am attaching the Press release we sent to the media as well as the
picture we wanted released.

Anything else you hear or see attributed to us is, at least for the
present, inaccurate.

God Bless You,

LTC Bouf
