“[State controlled] education is a weapon, whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.” – Joseph Stalin
"[I]f you serve a child a rotten hamburger in America, federal, state, and local agencies will investigate you, summon you, close you down, whatever. But if you provide a child with a rotten education, nothing happens, except that you're liable to be given more money to do it with." --Ronald Reagan
“Give me four
years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be
uprooted.” - Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (1870-1924) |
"When a strict interpretation of the Constitution, according to the fixed rules which govern the interpretation of laws, is abandoned, and the theoretical opinions of individuals are allowed to control its meaning, we no longer have a Constitution; we are under the government of individual men, who for the time being have power to declare what the Constitution is according to their own views of what it ought to mean." – Justice Benjamin R. Curtis
What Dogs Can Teach Us About People By Theresa Camoriano Michael Vick, the quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, was recently indicted for being involved in dog fighting. It is difficult and painful to imagine the cruelty and brutality that have been described in connection with this story. Apparently, many people are just as attracted to brutality today as in ancient Roman times, when it was considered sport for humans to engage in bloody fights to the death. Unfortunately, having exceptional talent like Michael Vick does not necessarily mean having civilized morals or values. (click to read more)
Global Warming By Gordon Francis Corbett People forget that when Leif Eriksson named Greenland, it was green. They forget that within the time of men, we have had at least two Ice Ages--and that one of those occurred during mediaeval times. They forget that dinosaurs once walked an Earth covered with lush foliage. Neither the wooly mammoths' cold climate, nor the dinosaurs' warm one, resulted from human activities. (click to read more)
Global warming in 1907 by Henry Lamb It is widely agreed that the global mean temperature has increased .07 degree C. over the last century. It is also widely agreed that carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has increased from about 280 parts per million, or ppm, to nearly 380. And there is general agreement that at least some, if not most, of the increase in atmospheric carbon is the result of humans burning fossil fuels. Here's where the agreement ends. Needed: More statesmanship, less showmanship By Jim Waters Where have all the statesmen gone? Not to Frankfort — a fact made painfully obvious by shenanigans occurring in the Capitol these days. Mischief abounds on both sides of the political aisle. (click to read more)

"YOU WORRY ME!" By American Airlines Pilot - Captain John Maniscalco (from a reader – source not confirmed) I've been trying to say this since 9-11, but you worry me. I wish you didn't. I wish when I walked down the streets of this country that I love, that your color and culture still blended with the beautiful human landscape we enjoy in this country. (click to read more)
Third parties' lock-hold on (health care) reimbursement punishes innovators. When the Duke University Medical Center's innovative new program for people with congestive heart failure so substantially improved patients' health that hospital visits and usage plummeted, the perverse nature of the payment system meant Duke couldn't benefit from saving its patients' money -- nearly $8,000 per person. In only one year, the program had reduced costs by 40%, yielding the kind of do-good returns that would normally earn kudos from Wall Street and Main Street. But, because the third parties pay providers only for treating sick people, they penalize innovators who make people healthy…. Until we control our own health- care system, the entrepreneurs who could reform it -- and make our lives better -- will continue to look elsewhere for opportunities. Who can blame them? – Regina Herzlinger

“While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but when once they lose their virtue they will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader.” ---Samuel Adams "Take this warning from me, Marlo….If you produce one more editorial against climate change, I will launch a campaign against your professional integrity. -- Michael T. Eckhart, president of the American Council On Renewable Energy (ACORE). Six out of seven health-care dollars are spent by third parties. That kills the market. Patients rarely shop around, and doctors rarely compete on price or service.—John Stossel
Just about every generation has some horrific evil that it must fight. For the Democratic Party today that evil is carbon dioxide emissions. For the rest of us, it is an ideology that teaches that its deity is sanctified by the blood of innocents, just as the Aztec deities were. – Dennis Prager "A haircut's a haircut. You can get the same one for $10… "If he's so big on poverty, then why don't he give the other $390 to some homeless person?" -- James Rudd, a 28-year-old Whitesburg, Kentucky resident who's spent the past 10 years mining coal, speaking about John Edwards’ poverty tour
