“[State controlled] education is a weapon, whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.” – Joseph Stalin

"[I]f you serve a child a rotten hamburger in America, federal, state, and local agencies will investigate you, summon you, close you down, whatever.  But if you provide a child with a rotten education, nothing happens, except that you're liable to be given more money to do it with."

--Ronald Reagan

“Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.” - Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (1870-1924)

"Citing polls as proof you're on the right side of an argument is often a symptom of intellectual cowardice. If the crowd says two plus two equals seven, that's no reason to invoke the authority of the crowd. But pundits and pols know that if they align themselves with the latest Gallup findings, they don't have to defend their position on the merits because 'the people' are always right." ---Jonah Goldberg

Who Will Defend Our Children?           By Theresa Camoriano

My daughter Nina and her fellow students at Virginia Tech have attended funerals and planted trees in memory of their slain classmates, and they continue to mourn the senseless loss of so many wonderful, promising people.  What must the mother and father of Nina’s friend have been thinking as they made the drive from Arlington, Virginia to Blacksburg, knowing their daughter would not be there to greet them this time? What were they feeling as they stood in the rain in front of their daughter’s honors dorm, joining her friends in placing shovelfuls of dirt over the roots of the tulip poplar being planted in her memory? I cannot bear to imagine the heartache of those parents, and I cannot bear to imagine that school administrators all over the country continue to leave students defenseless against evil people who want to kill them, making it likely that more children will be murdered, and more parents will suffer such heartache.        (click to read more)

‘Calculating’ candidates offer bad math on teacher salaries        By Jim Waters

The premise that Kentucky’s teachers have reached a point where they deserve irrevocable memberships to the Poor House is a widely accepted falsehood that remains just as untrue as oft-perpetuated myths such as popping your knuckles gives you arthritis and women drive worse than men.        (click to read more)

Anne Northup’s History In Health Care        By Richard Lewis

In 1994 Anne Northup helped draft and then cosponsored HB 366. HB 366 was a 95 page mandated health plan that would require every Kentucky resident to show proof of health insurance before paying Kentucky taxes each year under penalty of fine!        (click to read more)

Resolution Supports SBC President's Call for More Churches to Start Christian Schools

COLUMBIA, SC, May 2 /Christian Newswire/ -- The call for an "exodus" from the public schools continues to build momentum within the Southern Baptist Convention.

As the controversy over public schooling among Southern Baptists and other Christians continues to gather force, for the first time a president of the Southern Baptist Convention has publicly called upon churches to start more Christian schools and to make sure that provision is made for the children of families that would not otherwise be able to afford to attend. In an August 2006 interview with Jim Brown of Agape Press, the newly elected President of the SBC, Dr. Frank Page, stated that he prays that more churches will begin offering Christian schools, both for families who can and for those who cannot afford such education.        (click to read more)

Legislators give failing grade to changes in testing policy           By Richard G. Innes

Introduction

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) and Kentucky Board of Education (KBE) received pointed criticism recently from a committee of legislators for inappropriately changing testing policy.

On March 28, the Legislature’s Education Assessment and Accountability Review Subcommittee (EAARS) sent a sharp message to the education department and state board: Removal of national norm-referenced testing (NRT) for elementary and middle schools from the state’s school-assessment program breached state law and isn’t what lawmakers want.         (click to read more)

The Cost of Cheap Tomatoes  (source not confirmed)

From a California school teacher - - -"As you listen to the news about the student protests over illegal immigration, there are some things that you should be aware of:
I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at a large southern California high school which is designated a Title 1 school, meaning that its students average lower socioeconomic and income levels.

When mass killers meet armed resistance  (source not confirmed)

It took place at a university in Virginia. A student with a grudge, an immigrant, pulled a gun and went on a shooting spree. It wasn't Virginia Tech at all. It was the Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, not far away.  You can easily drive from the one school to the other, just take a trip down Route 460 through Tazewell.        (click to read more)

Government Cannot Be FIXED, BY ANYONE ANYWHERE!!          by Donna Mancini

Plenty has been said about the government being corrupt and dishonest. It's a cliché.  Most people focus on one aspect of the government or the other; currently the war in Iraq is a hot topic for discussion,  declaring the  "System"  could work if their  group of  know it alls  were in charge.  Then, and only then,   We the people  would  experience Utopia  and live happily ever after!        (click to read more)

In truth, there is only one way to regard a minimum wage law: it is compulsory unemployment, period. The law says: it is illegal, and therefore criminal, for anyone to hire anyone else below the level of X dollars an hour. This means, plainly and simply, that a large number of free and voluntary wage contracts are now outlawed and hence that there will be a large amount of unemployment. Remember that the minimum wage law provides no jobs; it only outlaws them; and outlawed jobs are the inevitable result. — Murray Rothbard

As the Founders knew, prohibiting ordinary citizens from effectively discussing politics is no prescription for clean government. It is a prescription for tyranny. – Bradley Smith

Free State Project

"There is a word for people who put children in a car to be blown up.

The word is evil... It's important that we say this out loud and that we render this moral judgment. Because if we fail to understand that our enemy is evil, we have failed to understand what we are fighting." ---Newt Gingrich

If prosecutors can drag people through the mud and keep felony charges hanging over their heads, long after all the evidence says the opposite of what they were charged with, then any of us, anywhere, can be put through a living hell whenever it suits the whim or the political agenda of a district attorney. Thomas Sowell

"Global warming" seems to be joining "diversity," "gun control," "open space" and a growing list of other subjects where rational discussion has become impossible -- and where you are considered a bad person even for wanting to discuss it rationally. – Thomas Sowell

 The Patriot Post

Liberals claim to be taxing wealth, but in fact are taxing mostly work and productivity. By doing so, they hurt the middle class and keep them from getting ahead…. Do they know that they are helping to entrench a wealthy class and taking more and more away from those who actually work for a living? – David Strom
