Terry’s Tidbits – of Sorts

For those of you following the Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean story, here is where you can write them.  To jog some memories, Border Patrol Agents Ramos and Compean were arrested for shooting a Mexican drug smuggler in the butt.  They were tried and convicted and sentenced to ten years in federal prison.  The Mexican drug smuggler was later caught smuggling drugs again.  This time however he was given free medical treatment by our government and forgiven for his crimes.  To show his appreciation he is suing our government for five million dollars.  Meanwhile, Ramos and Compean are serving their sentences for doing their jobs.  Ramos was tossed in with the general population when he first reported to prison and was subsequently beaten badly by people shouting, “kill the border agent”.

Drop these good Americans a letter and let them know you stand behind them.

A whole lot is going on in the aftermath of the Virginia Tech massacre.  Citizens across the country are fighting back against crime though the socialist media don’t tell us about it.  I’m very glad to see this new trend.

I received an email yesterday about a company that is offering to train three teachers and/or faculty per school in gun safety and help them get their concealed carry permits – for free.  Isn’t it about time that our kids are protected?

Schools have been proclaimed gun-free zones which explains why schools are ripe for attack.  This reminds me of a neighborhood that decided it wanted to be a gun-free zone.  They put signs in their yards which essentially begged thieves to rob them by announcing their gun-free status.  There were so many home invasions and burglaries that they called it off after only a couple of months.

Schools are not being attacked by legal gun owners.  They are being attacked by criminals who have no regard for the law.  It seems to me that we would want trained school officials to be at a “level playing field” with those doing the attacking.  Why is it that we have such a hard time accepting that we are not only allowed to protect ourselves but protecting ourselves is a responsibility.  Protecting our kids should be much higher on our priority list than what it is, especially in our “it’s for the children” oriented school system.

Last week, in the dust of VT, two Louisville business employees used deadly force against would be robbers.  The cops are now saying that this isn’t the wise thing to do.  They say they want witnesses to crimes, not heroes.  They attempted to put the fear in those defending themselves by telling us that one day we’ll find one of these clerks dead on the floor.  Heeeeeeey, they would be just as dead on the floor if they didn’t fight back.  Frankly I’d rather go out with a smoking gun in my hand than with the wimpish whine of a victim.

My wife asked me a great question the other night.  “Honey, do I wait until they get in the house before I shoot them or should I shoot them before they get in?”  Why is this question even necessary?  If you are under attack – shoot.  I will shoot, no questions asked.  I’ll take my chances with Johnny Law.

I fail to understand why television news during a “storm” insists on telling us that there have been power outages.  If I’m watching the news then my power is on.  If my power is off, it is unlikely that I’m watching television news.  In either event I know if my power is on or off.

A couple of weeks ago we had storms in Louisville and the surrounding area.  For most of my life I’ve called these spring or summer thunderstorms.  Today they are life threatening events that need constant television coverage.  All I can figure is that this is part of the fear tactics that our local news stations use to keep us tuned in.  Of course they also need to justify the huge salaries of their meteorologists and the costly equipment that comes with “modern” forecasting.

Do us a favor, will you?  Tell us what is going on and then get off the air.

Aren’t we told that the reason for cops making sure we observe the posted speed limits is to protect us?  What is the first thing we do when we see a cop on the highway?  We look at our speedometers and slow down.  So why is it that there are so many unmarked cars on the streets?  It seems to me that if cops want to slow people down to save lives they would all drive around in brightly marked cars.   Dollars, not lives is the issue here.  The Watterson Expressway is a great example of cops in disguise hiding in the bushes just waiting to tag you with a ticket.

Ah the amazing justification of government was apparent recently when Louisville blatantly broke a state law when it coerced Louisville citizens to pay their outstanding parking tickets.  A city attorney said on television and in our faces that it would have cost too much to obey the law so they just broke it.  Can you believe that?

Those with outstanding parking tickets, by state law, are supposed to be notified by registered mail that they are in violation of the law and must pay their tickets.  Our outstanding leadership and black boots decided that they were above the law.  The mayor is now saying that sending out notices was “not practical”.  Not practical?  It is the law.  Since when do we break the law when we find it not practical or inconvenient?

On a similar note, there was a proposed bill this session in Frankfort that would allow cops to run through red lights without sirens or lights.  This is Frankfort’s answer to the rash of cops engaged in silent running killing our citizens.  Instead of doing what is right, they fix a problem by making the problem a non problem.

While I’m on the legislature this session, how about the one where fat people are exempt from wearing seatbelts?  Our state legislature passed the seatbelt law to “save lives”.  Would this make one think that the lives of fat people aren’t worth saving?

          Here are more worthy mentions:

          R. Damron filed a bill to “spend projected surplus now.”  I kid you not.

Jim Glenn wants to “finance literacy for college students”.  I thought we already did that – its called grades one through twelve.

Jimmy Lee wants to “retain some voting rights for persons with disabilities”.  I don’t recall anyone telling the disabled that they can’t vote.  However, this must pertain to the mentally handicapped.  It seems only fitting that the insane be allowed to vote for the insane.

Hubert Collins wants to “accept certain foreign commercial driver’s licenses”.  Is this in preparation for the Trans-American Highway?  This is all about Mexico and our government’s pro position on MexAmerica.  I can’t imagine a Bulgarian truck driver hauling his load through Kansas.

Ruth Ann Palumbo wants to “require six hours of continuing education for plumber’s license renewal”.  Lady, these folks work in sewers all day.  There isn’t any training that you can provide that will prepare them for that.  Leave the plumbers alone.  (Who wants to wager that either Palumbo was ripped off by a plumber or a close friend or relative gives “plumbers’ classes”)?  This is yet another money grab.

There is no sense in going on about our legislature and their antics.  It continues for page after page and little of it makes any sense.  I did see two that were worthy of favorable comment.  One was by Perry Clark – to reject efforts to require a federal I.D.  The other was by plumber-hater Palumbo – “to permit the use of a remote ignition starting device on unattended motor vehicles if the motor vehicle remains locked”.  That makes sense.  But it makes so much sense that the law should have already been written with that clause.  What happened?

          Who elects these people?

This has nothing to do with anything except it irks me.  Every so often I hear comments on schools “teaching to the tests” and this is never said in a positive way.  I don’t get it.  If tests are representative of what a student needs to know in order to move ahead in school and life, then by all means teach to the tests.  If the tests are not representative of the knowledge that one needs, then the tests are broken.

I got a spam email the other day that I found odd.  It was from Christian Family Loans.  The caption in the body of the email read, “Let Christian Family loans show you the way to a debt-free life.”  I suppose they are going to loan me some money to get me out of debt.  I’m ahead of them.  If I don’t have the money to buy something then I don’t buy it.  Read the bible, you rascals at Christian Family Loans.  “Neither borrower or lender be.”

Update:  Apparently the Christian Family people have me mistaken for someone gullible.  I got another email and this one takes the cake.  Christian Faith Financial wants to advance me money on my paycheck.  They are all going to hell.

So the Bardstown fire a few months ago killed a bunch of people, as most of us know.  The fire inspectors couldn’t find the cause, so they picked cigarettes as the culprit.  This was a timely event in that there was a bill in the legislature that wanted to force Kentucky cigarette makers to produce “fire-safe cigarettes”.  Some lobbyist idiot said that Kentucky has one of the highest smoking percentages in the country and one of the highest house-fire percentages.  He said it is obvious that producing “fire-safe cigarettes” will save lives in Kentucky.  What a leap.

It is now coming out that some of the adults in the house were three to four times drunker than the legal limit.  (I don’t understand that statement because as far as I know it is legal to be as drunk as one desires in one’s own home.)  One was so drunk that he was basically in a coma.  Sure, if they hadn’t been smoking they wouldn’t have set the house on fire - but what about their inebriation?  Is some legislator proposing “drunk-safe booze”?  We can take this so much farther.  How about “accident-safe cars” or “death-safe poison”?  This could open a whole new chapter in protecting people from themselves.

Tom Tancredo from Colorado has announced that he is running for president.  He has my vote.  I’ve been following Congressman Tancredo for quite a while as he has staunchly stood almost alone against the flood of illegal invaders coming into our country.  His campaign will center on securing our borders and removing those from our country who are not supposed to be here.  He is the only candidate that has the guts to take a stand on this issue.  Thank you Congressman Tancredo.
