Democracy or liberty – Walter Williams Would you want the kind of car that you own to be decided through a democratic process, or would you prefer purchasing any car you please? Ask that same question about decisions such as where you live, what clothes you purchase, what food you eat, what entertainment you enjoy and what wines you drink. I'm sure that if anyone suggested that these choices be subject to a democratic process, you'd deem it tyranny. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/WalterEWilliams/2007/02/28/democracy_or_liberty
Gore home’s energy use: 20 times average The former vice president's mansion in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, says the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, citing data from the Nashville Electric Service….according to the Tennessee think tank, while the average American household consumed 10,656 kilowatt-hours last year, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 – more than 20 times the national average….Gore's average monthly electric bill, the think tank says, is $1,359. http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=54450
Vaccine mandate explains our out-of-control health care system – Star Parker The Merck spokesman who announced the decision said: "Our goal is about cervical-cancer prevention, and we want to reach as many females as possible with Gardasil." Who would question the goal? But the spokesman left out two key points. At what cost? And who makes the decision to purchase the vaccine? …This is what is wrong with our system. And this is the universal health care that Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama have in store for us. No, thanks .http://www.townhall.com/columnists/StarParker/2007/02/26/vaccine_mandate_explains_our_out-of-control_health_system
George Soros and the problem of the radical non-Jewish Jew – Dennis Prager Jews with no religious or national identity do not like Jews who have those identities, and Americans who have likewise become world citizens do not much care for Americans who wave the American flag. Just as chauvinism -- excessive and amoral nationalism -- can lead to nihilism, so, too, the absence of any national or religious identity can lead to nihilism. The radical non-Jewish Jew loves humanity, but hurts real humans, especially his own. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/DennisPrager/2007/02/27/george_soros_and_the_problem_of_the_radical_non-jewish_jew
Why liberals are right to hate the ten commandments – Michael Medved [I]t makes good sense for leftists to hate The Big Ten: each one of the commandments contradicts a different pillar of trendy liberal thinking. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/MichaelMedved/2007/02/28/why_liberals_are_right_to_hate_the_ten_commandments Let them eat tofu – Ann Coulter Even right-wingers who know that "global warming" is a crock do not seem to grasp what the tree-huggers are demanding. Liberals want mass starvation and human devastation. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/AnnCoulter/2007/02/28/let_them_eat_tofu! High court and low politics – Thomas Sowell Part 1 Clarence Thomas staked out his own position on issues, even when all eight of his senior colleagues took the opposite position. Often it was Justice Thomas whose arguments won over Justice Scalia and Chief Justice Rehnquist -- and sometimes enough others for a majority. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/ThomasSowell/2007/02/27/high_court_and_low_politics Part 2 Republicans need to rethink their views on judges -- or perhaps to really think for the first time. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/ThomasSowell/2007/02/28/high_court_and_low_politics_part_ii Part 3 Although Supreme Court justices have lifetime tenure, precisely in order to give them independence, nothing can give anyone the backbone and character to stand up to criticism or to resist the blandishments of flattery and lionizing. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/ThomasSowell/2007/03/01/high_court_and_low_politics_part_iii Part 4 Perhaps the saddest thing in the book, though mentioned only in passing, is that some "highly qualified" potential nominees for the Supreme Court "had not wanted their names considered" because the Senate confirmation process had become "too bitter and too vitriolic" and "they just didn't want any part of it." http://www.townhall.com/columnists/ThomasSowell/2007/03/02/high_court_and_low_politics_part_iv
