“[State controlled] education is a weapon, whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.” – Joseph Stalin

"[I]f you serve a child a rotten hamburger in America, federal, state, and local agencies will investigate you, summon you, close you down, whatever.  But if you provide a child with a rotten education, nothing happens, except that you're liable to be given more money to do it with."

--Ronald Reagan

“Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.” - Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (1870-1924)

I'll tell you what. I'm proud to be representing African-American coaches, to be the first African-American to win this. It means an awful lot to our country. But again, more than anything, I've said it before, Lovie Smith and I, not only the first two African-Americans, but Christian coaches showing that you can win doing it the Lord's way. And we're more proud of that. Tony Dungy

Why Is Our Health Care System On Life Support?        By Theresa Fritz Camoriano

I recently had a medical diagnostic test done on an outpatient basis.  When I received the bill, I found that the hospital initially had billed $750 for the procedure, my insurance company had negotiated a deal with the hospital that reduced the bill to $300, and then it paid $30, leaving me $270 to pay out of my pocket.  I pay $1,000 a month for this kind of coverage?  What a crazy system!  Why is it such a mess?        (click to read more)

Kentucky Club for Growth: Kill the AMC

Feb. 7, 2007 - The Gross Receipts Tax - often referred to as the Alternative Minimum Calculation, or "AMC" for short - sounds fairly non-threatening at first blush, but in reality, every business owner, manager, employee and job-seeker is affected by this anti-growth tax on free-enterprise.         (click to read more)

BOOK REVIEWS BY MARK WEBSTER

Is our country a Christian country?  The authors of the three books under review would say no.  Our country was founded by extremely well educated and well read pragmatists, some of whom were practicing Christians.  However, the country they founded was a secular nation.        (click to read more)

String of armed robberies brings on silly ideas      by Barry Bright

Last Thursday a local television station once again showed its inability to deal in reality.

Louisville, Kentucky may not be any more violent than most cities its size but it has its share of crime. Metro Police told Wave3 News that a string of convenience store robberies are probably connected.        (click to read more)

Change prevailing-wage policy: Increase info, lower costs        By Paul Kersey

Kentucky law requires that workers on state and local government-construction projects receive the “prevailing wage” paid to workers in a new facility’s locality.

On the surface, this policy seems fair enough. But a closer look at the final-wage determinations it establishes makes it clear: the state regularly overestimates prevailing-wage rates.        (click to read more)

HARPER SIGNS NO TAX PLEDGE  – Kentucky businessman touts credentials as fiscal conservative –

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Republican Billy Harper announced that he has signed a pledge not to raise taxes if elected governor and said he would veto any tax increases approved by the state Legislature during his tenure.

Harper also said his support for repealing the Alternative Minimum Tax and cutting unnecessary government spending as well as his real-world experience as an entrepreneur and business owner position him as the true fiscal conservative in the GOP primary.        (click to read more)

The conclusion seems unavoidable. The Islamic radicals made the decision to attack America on 9/11 because they decided that America was cowardly and weak. They came to this conclusion largely as a result of the actions—and inaction—of the Clinton administration and its allies on the left. What could have been done to get rid of Bin Laden and avert 9/11 was not done. In this sense liberal foreign policy gave radical Muslims the confidence and the opportunity to strike, and they did. Dinesh D’Souza

If “marriage” can mean anything, then it means nothing. Thomas Sowell

If we understand oppression as interference in an individual's ability to exercise control of and responsibility for their own life, then I see oppression defining three distinct chapters in black American history. The first was slavery. The second Jim Crow. And the third, the growth and flourishing of the welfare state. Star Parker

Profit is not something that we have to apologize for. Profit is proof that the capitalist has given something to society that it cherishes more than the material wealth it has given to the businessman. – Johan Norberg
