State Representative Brandon Smith Launches

Treasurer Campaign

Challenges Opponents to a debate in every Congressional district

[Hazard, KY] Republican State Representative Brandon Smith (H-84), Republican candidate for State Treasurer, today challenged his opponents in the Republican primary to a debate in every Congressional District across the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

"The voters have a great deal of choices in this year's race for State Treasurer and it's important that they have the chance to meet us, listen to us, and get to know us," stated Republican State Representative Brandon Smith.  "I hope my opponents take the time to travel the state and accept my challenge to a debate on the issues in each Congressional District."

"The job of State Treasurer is about protecting the pocketbook of the taxpayer.  I have laid out a vision that includes a Kentucky Military Relief Fund, a financial management program, and a continuing education program for military personnel."

"I will be traveling the state over the next 100 days telling the voters about myself and my vision.  I am hopeful that the other opponents will talk about the issues and join me by debating in every Congressional district around the state."

Wheeler for State Treasurer

131 Sycamore Dr.

Lexington, KY 40324

Mrs. Wheeler:

As you are aware, the filing period has come to a close and it is now time to focus on traveling the Commonwealth and presenting Kentuckians with our ideas for moving forward. It has been a pleasure to work with you in Frankfort in the past and I look forward to the discussion we will have over the next several months about the direction of our Commonwealth. I appreciate your service through the Administrative Office of the Courts and respect the sacrifice you have made for the greater good of public service. I look forward to running an honest, dignified, and respectful campaign that will focus on the issues critical to the future prosperity of Kentucky.

A significant element of the campaign will be presenting the voters with our vision and listening to them and hearing their concerns. I feel it will be necessary, and beneficial to the people of Kentucky, to hold a debate in each of the six Congressional districts across our Commonwealth. Each region of our state has distinct issues that are specific to that area. To appropriately make our ideas known, and present Kentucky Republicans with all options for State Treasurer, I am asking you, and the other Republican candidates in the race, to join me in a debate in each district.  Not only can we share our vision with the voters, but we can hear from them as well.

I strongly encourage you to accept my proposal that all Republican candidates for State Treasurer come together for a series of debates across Kentucky.  Once you agree to the proposal, I suggest a representative of each campaign for State Treasurer meet and set the specifics of the debate.

Again, I look forward to the discussion we are going to have about the future of the Commonwealth. I pledge my commitment to making this campaign about the issues that are critical to the prosperity of our Commonwealth and look forward to you joining me in that endeavor.

I would ask that you get back to me by noon on Thursday, February 1, 2007.

Respectfully,

Brandon Smith
