QUESTIONS AND STUFF

*How can our local government destroy someone’s acquittal without destroying his arrest record?  Thousands of Jefferson County criminal records dated 2001 and before were recently destroyed.  In order to engage and enrage the public, we were told that people who had been acquitted of crimes would be hard pressed to prove the acquittals.  Doesn’t an acquittal come AFTER an arrest?  “Sir, can you prove that you were acquitted of this offense?”  What offense, if the acquittal was destroyed, then the arrest record should also have been destroyed. Not the other way around, unless of course we are speaking of Ernie Fletcher’s staff, who were acquitted before any charges were filed.

*We had fewer fatalities on Kentucky highways in 2006 than in 2005, according to our socialist news stations.  Did we also have fewer accidents?  They don’t tell us that, and statistics haven’t yet been released.  Like a one-armed fisherman explaining the size of the fish was that got away, we only get half the story.

*What is the difference between escalation and surge?  Condi Rice was recently hard-pressed to explain the difference, and she failed miserably.  Of course, shouldn’t we expect failure from a Bush henchwoman?  The whole Bush administration has been a nightmare of failure.

*Bush wants to “surge” to protect Iraq against insurgents coming from other countries.  Shouldn’t he at least practice in our country, on our borders, before trying this in the Middle East?  How about starting with Arizona?

*News channel 11 tells us with glee that new cable barriers are coming to Louisville because the ones we now have are proving themselves by saving lives.  How many lives have been saved by the cable barriers?  Some cars have hit the barriers, but how many lives have really been saved?  There weren’t that many crossover deaths before the very expensive barriers were installed.

*Why does James Ramsey, President of U of L, prefer basketball over education?  Tuition keeps going up and coaches keep getting raises.  Do I detect a cause and effect?  Remember a couple of years ago when U o L students were towed from student parking because the parking space was needed for a basketball game.  The students paid for parking and were in class when their cars were towed (stolen).  I just received a letter from U of L asking for money.  I graduated from U of L 23 years ago, and they are still hounding me for donations.  It’s the way they ask that upsets me.  The letter starts off with how great the football team is.  Then it goes on to tell me that U of L School of Law was one of the first law schools to force law students to provide pro bono service.  What a proud moment.  A law student spends a hundred thousand dollars for an education and is then forced to give away his services.  They then brag that the U of L Kent School of Social Work has partnered with China to enhance social services there.  Would that be where my money goes?  They want me to know that their engineering and research programs are rated among the top in the nation.  Okay, use the engineering and research departments to make pigs fly and then ask me for money.

*Steve Lansford, Wave3’s general manager, tells us that inoculations against the HPV should be mandatory.  I say the government has no right to put anything in an American’s body against his/her will at any time.  Why do we put up with such socialists in the public eye?  How about a dose of Americanism, Steve?  If that could be injected, would you promote its mandatory use?

*Mitch McConnell and Jerry Abramson are both guilty of betting on basketball games?  Why were they not arrested?

*For a couple of weeks now, I’ve been playing Party Poker (play money) online when I find time.  When I sign on, there is a disclaimer that reads, “The President of the United States has signed legislation that causes PartyGaming to have to cease taking wagers from U.S. customers.  We will also suspend accepting deposits from U.S. customers and examine potential offerings to U.S. customers that would be within the new law.  All non-U.S. players and play-for-free games will not be affected.”  Hey, welcome to the freest country on the planet.  While our government attempts to spread “Democracy” throughout the world, our president dictates to us that we can’t gamble with the wretchedly oppressed people of the world.  Please don’t save those wretchedly oppressed folks, Mr. President, they are having fun with their freedom.

*Why don’t those receiving welfare have to submit to random urine tests?  Thousands of working folks who voluntarily go to work to involuntarily support those who voluntarily live off our worker’s sweat have to submit to random urine tests.

*How can a local, unelected body of government, Louisville Animal Control, have the authority to seize personal property without a court order?  The IRS no longer has this power.  But let your dog bark at a neighbor and Animal Control throws your pooch in the poky without due process.  How can that be?

*Louisville has experienced a growing number of armed robberies.  Louisville police deny that there is gang activity in Louisville.  Louisville police are investigating whether or not these robberies are gang related.  Ooooookay.  As I look at the footage of the interior of the stores that are robbed, I can’t help but wonder why the teller areas aren’t surrounded by Plexiglas.  I go into convenience stores all the time where the tellers are protected by this barrier.  Not one of the stores I saw on television that were robbed had barriers.  AND, why aren’t these tellers carrying weapons?  A robber pulls a gun and you blow him apart.  The robberies stop at that instant.  We are told that we can’t take the law into our hands and at the same time we are begged and bribed by media and police to help solve crimes.  The cops can’t do the job, folks.  Convenience store people – arm yourselves.  If your boss doesn’t like it, tell him to work the counter.  Would you rather be unemployed or dead?  A security company spokesman was interviewed about the cameras they recently installed in one of the places that were robbed.  I own a security company, and they never gave me any free advertising.  So, if this gets past my editor, I can fix you up with security systems and cameras.  Contact me at the above email address.

*The recent Boston gag was a hoot.  Two guys, four or five Lite Brights, the streets of Boston, and hundreds of cops make for an interesting scenario.  Cops just love this stuff and then complain because they wasted their time with a hoax.  Had it been real, they would have been twitching and sweating with delight.  Now they are mad.  They were fooled and they don’t like it.  A few years ago, no one would have paid any attention, and rightly so.  The guys responsible for this actually called it in; otherwise the cops wouldn’t have known what was going on.  I doubt that real terrorists would alert us.  My concern is that a little stunt like this can paralyze an entire city.  If two guys and some toys can do this, anybody can do it – terrorists have carte blanche.  Now sleep well all of you who put your faith in government to protect you.

*Thursday night on Whas11 news the good socialist news team reported, with a twinkle, that Oldham County’s businesses were now smoke-free.  For the past week and a half it has been all over the media that Oldham County Magistrate Rick Rash led the Oldham County council in a decision to postpone the ban, from February 1 until May while they “revisit” the oppressive proposal.  One would think that the “informed” news team at WHAS would be in on what is happening in our area.  With that in mind one can only wonder if they had ulterior motives in reporting this event.  Are they promoting a ban in Oldham County or are they just plain ignorant?  I dropped them an email and informed Rick Rash.  He called them to set them straight   Has anyone seen a retraction or correction?
