A dangerous obsession Part I – Thomas Sowell If you cannot understand something as simple as making a lead pencil, why should you be surprised that you don't understand why someone is making a lot more money than somebody else? …Moreover, if this obsession with income disparities is to be something more than mere hand-wringing or gnashing of teeth, obviously the point is that somebody ought to "do something" to change what you don't understand.  …. Can you imagine anything more dangerous than allowing politicians to decide how much money each of us can earn? http://www.townhall.com/columnists/ThomasSowell/2006/12/26/a_dangerous_obsession

Part II – How did these particular people come to possess so much more wealth than other people?  They did it the old-fashioned way. They produced the wealth that they own. You might as well ask why bees have so much more honey than other creatures. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/ThomasSowell/2006/12/27/a_dangerous_obsession_part_ii

Part III - Any number of schemes for redistributing wealth have ended up redistributing poverty in a number of countries. … The real obsession of the left is in gaining power or, at the very least, engaging in moral exhibitionism. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/ThomasSowell/2006/12/28/a_dangerous_obsession_part_iii

Part IV - It is the same story when Derek Jeter gets paid millions of dollars to play shortstop for the Yankees. He gains by exchanging his time and skills for the money that George Steinbrenner pays him. But Steinbrenner also gains by paying Jeter to play shortstop -- which helps bring in more money in gate receipts, the sale of television rights, and other sources of revenue. As for the rest of us, it is none of our business what Steinbrenner pays Jeter. It's their deal. If we don't understand it, there is no reason why our ignorance should influence what happens. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/ThomasSowell/2006/12/29/a_dangerous_obsession_part_iv

The global warming inquisition- The letter to ExxonMobile from Rockefeller and Snowe is but one example of the dire tactics being used to stifle any debate on the subject….2006 has seen the church of global warming go into near panic at any sign of heretical behavior. …Countering this massive onslaught of globally acceptable climate change “truth” is a tiny, dedicated band of scientists, political leaders and non-profits that are seeking the real “truth.” …Human survival demands that we listen to the “Skeptics” before they are burned at the stake by suppositious brutes like Jay Rockefeller and Olympia Snowe.   http://www.newswithviews.com/DeWeese/tom71.htm

Top ten junk science moments of 2006 Cosmic ray study fails to penetrate lead-lined media. Swedish researchers provided experimental evidence that cosmic rays may be a major factor in climate change. They calculated that just 5 years of cosmic ray activity can have 85 percent of the effect on the Earth’s climate as 200 years of manmade carbon dioxide emissions. Though the study was published in the prestigious Proceedings of the Royal Society A, the findings went largely unreported by the Al Gore-smitten media. http://www.humanevents.com/lists.php?id=18604

My Christmas Greeting – by Pastor Chuck Baldwin
America has never been perfect. Nothing that man touches is. However, America was the greatest experiment in limited government and individual freedom that the world has ever known. Sadly, the powers that be are currently experimenting with the old, antiquated ideas of collectivism and globalism. Sadder still, a sizeable percentage of the American people have lost touch with their heritage and no longer seem capable of distinguishing between good and bad government.....

Is nothing too trivial for the busybodies?  John Stossel http://www.unionleader.com/article.aspx?headline=John+Stossel%3A+Is+nothing+too+trivial+for+the+busybodies%3F&articleId=cdc087db-c679-4675-ab09-29093aeab9a5

In his most powerful statements to date on issues involving sexual morality, Pope Benedict XVI said homosexuals end up destroying themselves so the Church has a duty to speak out on moral issues that affect the very spiritual and physical lives of man. Read the latest now on WND.com.

Need an honest debate about energy -  Texas, being Texas, likely will get its coal plants eventually. But I ask you, Texas: If Texans must wrestle this hard with rock-bottom questions such as how we keep the lights on, what does that say about the nation's capacity to engage in the same wrestling match? Nothing particularly cheerful, I'd venture. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/BillMurchison/2006/12/26/texans_and_coal_plants

German government declares war on homeschooling families - Such mandatory public school attendance, and the accompanying procedures to physically escort children to schools, were legalized under the Nazis in 1938. Hitler was concerned at that time about having children grow up with perspectives that were not approved by the state. http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=53457

Climate of fear – Jeff Jacoby Maybe Mother Earth is warming up, or maybe she's cooling down, but either way it's always bad news.

Duke Lacrosse Fiasco - Mike Nifong personifies all that is rotten and perverse about too many of our…public servants. …He stalled and delayed the proceedings hoping against hope that some fluke would come along to solidify what he knew to be a trumped up case. Playing the media like a fiddle he was able for a long while to encourage the thought that the presence of incriminating evidence was a fact….And while he despicably manipulated the evidence, which pointed away from the accused as being perpetrators of a crime, he continually encouraged the lies of the accuser. …One wonders how many innocent people have been wrongly incarcerated by the Mike Nifongs of our judicial system.  http://www.newswithviews.com/Schwiesow/jim11.htm
