Where Are Americans By Jeff “Mario” Smith, Guerilla Reporter November 11, In the Year of our Lord 2006
Today is Veteran’s Day, a day to remember all who served their country in the military, whether it be in peace time or a time of war. This is always a special day in our family as the men in our family have served for generations. You have your Marine families, your Navy families, your Air Force Families, your Coast Guard families, and your Army families like ours.
My grandfather Anthony Willett served in WWI protecting our shores from enemy attack. My father served in WWII in North Africa, Corsica, Southern France, and Italy with the 431st Heavy Construction Signal Battalion. One of my brothers served in Vietnam in 67 and 68 with the famed 173rd Airborne Brigade (SEP), and his twin went to Korea with a missile support unit. I served in Germany in an Air Defense Artillery Battery, and my son served in Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 37th Engineer Battalion, Combat, Airborne, attached to the 101st Airborne and is currently serving a second tour in Afghanistan with another unit. We believe in God and country and service.
LEFTington, KY had a Veterans Day Parade today and we participated as part of the Task Force Omega of KY unit, with the KY Blue Star Mothers Chapter 2 behind us. Leading our group was Patrick Ford of the 82nd Airborne with two of his buddies from his unit, the 1st / 504th Airborne. It was wonderful to have these young soldiers leading the way, two of whom possess the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the most highly regarded decoration the U. S. Army awards. As usual, the television cameras turned away when we approached; they seem to do that every year, not sure why.
There were some great units in the parade. In front of us was the Emmanuel Baptist Church float which is a “live display” of the Iwo Jima Flag Raising. Men in period uniforms pose with the American Flag being placed into rock on a trailer pulled by a truck. These guys were fantastic and the wind was blowing the flag hard and proud. What a sight to behold. It sent chills down my spine.
The usual Shriners clowns were there, as well as ROTC units and some military units. What was missing were the people of Lexington. I have never seen such a poor turnout for a parade. To make matters worse, the University of Kentucky, ignoring what this day is all about, scheduled a football game on Veteran’s Day. How sad it is that so many people can take time to attend a silly football game in the cold and rain, but couldn’t brave the weather to pay tribute to America’s Veterans!
This is the reason our country is falling fast. Our entertainment drunken sheeple spend all their spare time with pornography, beer, ball games, NASCAR, the boob tube, and Hollyweird movies. Would it be too much to ask to set a day aside, as it was designed, to honor all our Veterans who served so we might sleep in peace at night when we lay down our heads?
