Commentaries by:
“[State controlled] education is a weapon, whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.” – Joseph Stalin
"[I]f you serve a child a rotten hamburger in America, federal, state, and local agencies will investigate you, summon you, close you down, whatever. But if you provide a child with a rotten education, nothing happens, except that you're liable to be given more money to do it with." --Ronald Reagan
“Give me four
years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be
uprooted.” - Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (1870-1924) |
Are feeding the poor, supervising education and subsidizing the arts proper functions of government? Are they, in particular, proper functions of the U.S. government? If so, why aren't they listed among the powers "granted" and "delegated" by the people in the Constitution? – Joe Sobran
Minimum Wage and other thoughts By Theresa Fritz Camoriano First, I would like to apologize for not posting an issue of Jefferson Review last week. I had to make an emergency trip to Connecticut to bring my Uncle John down to Kentucky for the winter. (click to read more)
The pinch of prevailing wage By Jim Waters Critics of Kentucky’s prevailing-wage law claim the practice is a harmful relic from the past that keeps schools from getting built, places some contractors at a competitive disadvantage and generally rips off taxpayers. (click to read more)
The Birkenstocks and Bongos Crowd Mourns in LEFTington or… From FLOW to FLOP By Jeff “Mario” Smith, Guerilla Reporter Not being a partaker of the party life, I did something last night I don’t very often do. I went to a gathering to celebrate something that had not yet occurred, but would be final before we dispersed. (click to read more)
Mayor Isaac's cover up of a Contingent Liability of $20 million by Mark Lowry, President, Standup 7 + 1 There are many firefighters who are upstanding individuals I am proud to call fellow citizen. A Turnout Effort is Not a Message By Rod D. Martin, 9 November 2006 For most of my life, a small minority of us Republicans (notably Newt Gingrich and Morton Blackwell, plus acolytes such as me) agitated, cajoled and worked for the day when our party would take seriously the “ground war”: (click to read more)
Response to Don Heavrin’s Mid-October Observations By Jeff “Mario” Smith, Guerilla Reporter As anti-war people always do, Don Heavrin exploits the heart-wrenching deaths of, this time, seventeen of our military who went into harm’s way so that we can have the freedom we have to spout our opinions on this website as well as anywhere else we wish. Dances With Comcast By Jonathan David Morris I’ve had a lot of bad experiences with utility companies. Never in my life have I had one as bad as my recent run-in with cable giant Comcast. (click to read more)
Wilmore’s future, Quaint or Bustling? By Jeff “Mario” Smith, Guerilla Reporter Wilmore Kentucky is a quaint historic community in Jessamine County, a charming neighbor to the overdeveloped Fayette County, or Lexington, KY, a diamond in the rough. (click to read more)
"Stem cell research needs neither government money nor politics. It is better to get the government out and let the private sector continue its good work. Those people calling for increased funding could take out their checkbooks and support it. Those who oppose embryonic stem cell research would not be forced to pay for it. The vast majority of medical and scientific breakthroughs in this country's history have been accomplished by the private sector. There's no reason for stem cell research to be any different. Let's end the political debate, and get back to scientific research." ---Michael Tanner

Under President George W. Bush, the Republican Party has become little more than a carbon copy of the Democratic Party. Therefore, voters concluded, "Why settle for phonies when one can have the genuine article?" – Chuck Baldwin
"Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person." ---Mother Teresa
"Perhaps the fact that we have seen millions voting themselves into complete dependence on a tyrant has made our generation understand that to choose one's government is not necessarily to secure freedom." ---Fredrich August von Hayek
