Cast of characters part 1 – Thomas Sowell Both Ford and Obama are probably better than most Congressional Democrats, but that is a very small claim in a high-tax party that has been irresponsible on national defense for decades and has fought against even modest attempts to control illegal immigration. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/ThomasSowell/2006/10/31/the_cast_of_characters

Cast of characters part 2 – Thomas Sowell  Can we afford to have Congress controlled by people who refuse to discuss their own record or agenda, at a time when a nuclear Iran and a nuclear North Korea loom over our future and over the future of our children and grandchildren? …Do we really want Congressman Alcee L. Hastings, who was impeached as a federal judge and removed from the bench due to charges of accepting bribes, put in charge of a committee handling top secret national intelligence? …Even voting for a moderate Democrat like Harold Ford in Tennessee for the Senate can mean putting extremists like Ted Kennedy and Pat Leahy in charge of the Senate and liberal activist judges on the bench for decades to come. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/ThomasSowell/2006/11/02/cast_of_characters_part_ii

Cast of characters part 3 – Thomas Sowell [M]ilitary service does not confer lifetime immunity from criticism for what you do afterwards. …This is not the first time the media have circled the wagons around Senator Kerry. Despite the fact that Kerry has shamelessly tried to exploit his military service in Vietnam decades later, Tim Russert is the only major media commentator who has ever asked him why he will not open his military records, as President Bush has done. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/ThomasSowell/2006/11/03/cast_of_characters_part_iii

Raising the Minimum Wage is bad for the Poor, Business and Liberty
Raising the minimum wage will be on the Ohio ballot as Issue 2 on Nov. 7. Its defenders complain about poverty and job loss, but prescribe a remedy that worsens poverty and job loss! If you do the math, you’ll see that raising the minimum wage is not good for the poor or for businesses. As a small business owner I have come to see this as self-evident: when a business has allocated a certain amount of money for overhead and the overhead costs increase, it can be a devastating blow to the business, especially if the increase in overhead costs does not increase productivity and profitability......

Stem cells – where the real hopes lie – Rebecca Hagelin Follow the money, folks, because believe me, if embryonic stem cells offered any real hope, private companies would be lining up around the block to fund it. Sure, some would avoid it because of the ethical problems, but not all. That’s why the proponents of embryonic stem-cell research are beating the drums for taxpayer money. It’s their only chance….Fortunately, we don’t have to turn our backs on stem-cell cures entirely. Other types of stem cells are helping us make substantial progress against disease -- and without any of the ethical quandaries associated with embryonic stem cells. Just this week, it was announced that British scientists have grown the world’s first artificial human liver. And what did they use? Tissue created from umbilical cord blood, taken just minutes after birth. Adult stem cells are another alternative -- one that preserves life and, well, actually works.  http://www.townhall.com/columnists/RebeccaHagelin/2006/11/03/stem_cells_where_the_real_hope_lies

Diversity adulation – Walter Williams When academics call for diversity, they're really talking about racial preferences for particular groups of people, mainly blacks. The last thing they're talking about is intellectual diversity. …Rich Americans, who acquired their wealth through our capitalist system, give billions to universities. Unbeknownst to them, much of that money often goes to faculty members and programs that are openly hostile to donor values. …Benefactors should stop giving money to universities that engage in racist diversity policy. Simply go to the university's website, and if you find offices of diversity, close your pocketbook. There's nothing like the sound of pocketbooks snapping shut to open the closed minds of administrators. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/WalterEWilliams/2006/11/01/diversity_adulation

Calling a clone a clone – Kathleen Parker Sentient humans are probably wondering why Missouri needs a constitutional amendment for embryonic stem cell research when it is already legal….Whether one clones an embryo for birth, or clones an embryo for research, a clone is a clone is a clone. …If the amendment is approved, the Missouri Constitution may protect human egg commerce from future regulation. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/KathleenParker/2006/11/01/calling_a_clone_a_clone

Why Kerry’s crack matters – Michael Medved Kerry’s Words Expose the Essentially Fraudulent Nature of Contemporary Liberalism: Expressing Disrespect for the Very Americans the Left Claims to Defend. If the Dems insist that ordinary citizens can’t succeed without government help, and the GOP emphasizes that hard work and decency still bring the American dream if bureaucrats and do-gooders stay out of the way, which side demonstrates the greater respect for the ability and potential of American strivers? http://www.townhall.com/columnists/MichaelMedved/2006/11/01/why_kerrys_crack_matters

The Growing National ID Trap
As technology develops, data banks of personal information are being collected on everything from medical records, to financial and employment histories, to school records, to buying habits at the super market. The government is building data banks on farm animals. Our cars have little black boxes, which record data on our driving habits. In addition, the uses of video cameras, computer chips and biometric screening to monitor our activities are growing rapidly......

Security and Prosperity Partnership
In other words, the three branches of government established by the framers and codified by the Constitution have been neutered by a treaty that really isn't a treaty but has the force of treaty but we agree not to call it a treaty. Get it? Wink/wink ... nod/nod. Even California Democrat George Miller acknowledged, "Local legislation can be nullified because a secret trade tribunal says so. ... It doesn't matter whether you're a Republican or a Democrat, a conservative or liberal."......
