Edward Dean Moore, Vietnam Veteran or Not

By Jeff “Mario” Smith, Guerilla Reporter

October 17, 2006

Edward Dean Moore is running for Clerk of Boone County, KY. He has a website to promote himself in that election. On his website are claims of Vietnam Service. There is nothing Veterans like more than supporting other Veterans, as long as they are truly what they say they are, and for this writer, of the conservative mindset.

Unfortunately, in the case of Edward Dean Moore, while he is a Veteran, his claim of Vietnam Service is questionable. Why is it questionable? Easy, the POW Network web site shows that the Freedom Of Information Act request for his records indicates No Vietnam Service, yet the alleged “certified” DD_214 posted to his website does show Vietnam Service. Which is it?

From the information made available, one can see that Ed Moore served from December 11th, 1967 until December 20th, 1973, but was on active duty only until September 19th, 1968. This means Ed has only 9 months and 8 days of actual active duty, with the rest of it being reserve time. It seems rather strange that a fellow would serve active duty for less than ten months during the peak of the Vietnam War, and then somehow end up in the reserves.

The FOIA report on Ed also shows that he received only the National Defense Service Ribbon which all military receive, and a rifle sharpshooter badge. All basic training graduates receive either the sharpshooter badge or an expert badge based upon their qualification with the weapon of the day. This awards information is in conflict with what Ed has published, which shows the addition of Vietnam Service Medals and an Army Commendation Medal.

Ed’s website proudly calls out his military service, stating he served in Vietnam as well as in Germany. Strangely, his website originally stated the alleged dates for this service, but after Ed was notified that he was being looked at as a potential wannabe, the website went down and reappeared without those dates, as can be seen here.

The FOIA requests for military records, though not complete as to all details of each individual’s service, do not omit tours of duty. It is that simple. Ed Moore, a man running for office while claiming that he is a Vietnam Veteran, must come clean. The only way to do that is to apologize to the community publicly and allow a SF180 request for records to be submitted. Only Ed can do that. He has been asked to do so by more than one Veteran, with no response yea or nay from Ed.

One would think that if Ed were legit, he would sign the SF180 to clear the air and prove his naysayers wrong. Then he could do what most politicians would do in that situation. He could play the victim and blame it all on a political attack. This would generate free publicity, and Ed could get in front of the cameras and in the newspapers to make his talking points heard. What a coup! But we have seen nothing from Ed other than to claim that this is a political attack. Hmm, sounds an awful lot like a klintonista for an alleged Republicrat!

The last thing in the world anyone wants to do is to accuse a Vietnam Veteran of lying about his service, the very last. Nobody deserves that. Unfortunately, we live in a time when a real problem, known as Stolen Valor, a phrase coined by B. G. Burkette in his book of the same title, is happening in epidemic proportions. Again, the bad guys make it worse for everyone else.

Suddenly, it is fashionable to be a Vietnam Veteran, and many who served, but not in Nam, embellish their history in order to, sadly, elevate themselves in their own eyes and to the world at large. Others who never served at all say they did. There are several cases of famous people doing it as well as the average Joe. The most popular lie seems to be that they were Special Forces or Navy Seals. If a person’s life is so sad that he has to lie about his life, why not go for the gold, right?

Pat Crowley, of the Cincinnati Enquirer / Kentucky Post has been alerted by more than one person of this scandalous situation, but is sitting on the information, publishing nothing about this obvious discrepancy between what Ed says about his service and what the federal government has issued about Ed’s service.

Of course, we all know the mainstream media are the “controllers of information” in our society, and in this case, they have decided the sheeple don’t need to know that a potential elected official appears to be lying to the public at large, his family, and everyone else about his alleged Vietnam service. But the media aren’t known for publishing that which does not align with their abhorrent leftist world view, so none of this should be shocking.
