Hippies, Trees, and Environmental Spirituality By Jeff “Mario” Smith, Guerilla Reporter LEFTington, KY
The September 20th edition of LEFTington, KY’s Heraldo-Liberal news rag contains a story by one Frank Lockwood, [er, uh, is that Lockweed], that tells of the adventures of a 32 year old lady named Julia Butterfly Hill. If that name doesn’t clue you into Ms. Butterfly’s leanings, then you weren’t alive in the 60s or 70s.
It was popular with the hippies in the Age of Aquarius, mostly due to pot smoking and dropping acid, to separate from traditional America. They did this in many ways, dress, hair, not bathing, engaging in group sex, living together outside of marriage, protesting the war in Viet Nam, living in communes, becoming vegetarians, naming their children things like Butterfly and Moon Unit, or in the words of one burned out druggie, “tuning in – turning on – and dropping out”.
Self described “environmentalist” Julia Butterfly Hill, henceforth known as Ms. Butterfly, is famous in liberal circles for living in a redwood tree for two years to protest its planned chain saw massacre. Showing the depth of her ignorance, she even named the tree “Luna” as if it could somehow respond to a name and had some sort of personality. Is “Luna” short for “luna-cee”, (lunacy)?
In June, Ms. Butterfly joined other environmental lunatics Joan Baez, Darryl Hannah, and Willie Nelson [enough said!] in LA for another tree climbing protest. Only on the “Left Coast” could you find someone whose career is climbing trees as a protest against the survival of fellow humans favoring instead the survival of trees which are, of course, easily replaced en masse.
According to one of my favorite anti-liberal writers and truth purveyors, Ann Coulter, “Environmentalists want mass infanticide, zero population growth, reduced standards of living, and vegetarianism. The core of environmentalism is that they hate mankind. Everything liberals believe is in elegant opposition to basic Biblical precepts... Our book is Genesis. Their book is Rachel Carson’s ‘Silent Spring’, the original environmental hoax.1”
Ann goes on to explain how Carson brainwashed a whole generation in the propaganda about DDT. “During the debate on DDT… J. Gordon Edwards, mountain climber, park ranger, author, and professor of biology at San Jose University, would eat spoonfuls of DDT at lectures to prove its safety to humans. Edwards lived a long and healthy life, finally dying in 2005 at the age of eighty-four while hiking.”2 Yet today, thanks to liberals, Africans are dying in droves from malaria.
Mark Steiner, Cultivating Connections' director, a Louisville group sponsoring Hill's Kentucky tour, says Ms. Butterfly understands "environmental spirituality." There you have it! Ann Coulter is right. Liberalism is indeed a religion, a godless religion that places plants and animals above humans. Leave it to our nemesis, the liberal media and Hollyweird, to celebrate these people and promote their propaganda. It never ends!
I love redwood trees, even riding a Harley Davidson through that famous one in California a few years back, but I would never consider not chopping down a few of them if mankind needed them, knowing that they will come back in time. Yes, I brought a redwood sapling back to Kentucky, but after the flight, and with Kentucky’s redwood-unfriendly environment, it died. Maybe Ms. Butterfly could have saved it for me.
