“[State controlled] education is a weapon, whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.” – Joseph Stalin
"[I]f you serve a child a rotten hamburger in America, federal, state, and local agencies will investigate you, summon you, close you down, whatever. But if you provide a child with a rotten education, nothing happens, except that you're liable to be given more money to do it with." --Ronald Reagan
“Give me four
years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be
uprooted.” - Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (1870-1924) |
“When school children start paying union dues, that 's when I'll start representing the interests of school children.” Albert Shanker - late president of the American Federation of Teachers
What Does “Public Education” Mean? By Theresa Fritz Camoriano Last Thursday, I attended a press conference in which Kentucky State Rep. Stan Lee presented a bill that would provide scholarships to students with learning disabilities. As the parent of a child with learning disabilities who is now in college, I spoke about our experiences and explained that I support this bill because it would enable families to get the help their children need. In an article published the next day, State Rep. Mary Lou Marzian, a member of the House Education Committee, was quoted in opposition to the bill. She said, "That's probably unconstitutional and bad public policy…Surely the House will see that it's a misuse of public funds." As I read her comments, I wondered, what does she think “Public Education” means?
Bill would enable Kentucky’s disabled students (Lexington, Kentucky) – A proposed scholarship program that would bring school choice to parents of Kentucky’s special-needs children could save taxpayers nearly $200 million, according to a soon-to-be-released report by the Bluegrass Institute, Kentucky’s free-market think tank. Legislation pre-filed today by Rep. Stan Lee, R-Lexington, would help children with learning disabilities attend public and nonpublic schools that best fit their unique needs.
Each month, the Kentucky Education Digest features a look at school choice from a parent’s perspective. This month’s testimony is from Louisville residents David and Betsy Gibbs. Trust is something we all value – especially when it comes to those responsible for educating our children. It’s especially critical that parents of learning-disabled student be able to trust the school system their children attend.
What is the ‘right’ path to learning? by Stephanie Graham Kentucky parents who are considering home schooling their children should know that state law favors their cause. Parents must simply advise the local school board that they will be home schooling their children. And even this requirement is not to ask permission, but rather to let the board know that these students are not truant. Boards do not approve curriculum or teaching methods.
A parent’s guide to the Kentucky Students with Special Needs Scholarship Program 1. What is the Kentucky Students with Special Needs Scholarship Program? The program enables parents who are dissatisfied with their children’s progress in their current schools to apply for a scholarship to attend any participating public school outside their resident school district or any participating nonpublic school.
Beware the Clergy and Laity Network of KY AKA Clergy Leadership Network / AKA CLN-KY Alternate Title: “God’s Will is a Yes vote for Socialism” By Jeff “Mario” Smith, Guerilla Reporter The Clergy and Laity Network of Kentucky (120 East Main Street #2103, Lexington, KY 40507) discussion board provides a glimpse into this leftist political organization hiding under a shroud of faith. Their faith, it appears, is in the communist conspiracy against Liberty. “We are an interfaith group that works to bring progressive religious values to the attention of the public and lawmakers both in Kentucky and nationally.” Hmm, aren’t these the same people who jump up and down and kick and scream whenever a Christian attempts to tell the truth that our nation is Christian and founded upon Christian principles?
Zero-sum games By David Schlosser, candidate for U.S. Congress When there are two people competing for a finite set of resources, whatever one person secures is lost to the other. In a two-party political system, what one party wins, the other party loses. Game theorists call this concept a “zero-sum game.” The logical assumption is that the two parties represent the opposite ends of the political spectrum. Republicans and Democrats, liberals and conservatives.
Eminent Domain To Be Used In Trans-Texas Corridor Project --Largest Land Grab In Texas History Austin, Texas -- The Trans-Texas Corridor (TTC) project championed by Gov. Rick Perry will bring about mass evictions of Texans from their homes, farms, and ranches, according to an online video released by a citizen group.
Abe Lincoln never went to high school or college. In fact, he spent very little time in any kind of "educational institution." But was he uneducated? On the contrary, he ranks high among the well-educated men of all centuries, including our own. When Benjamin Franklin first went to Paris as envoy from the newly formed Confederacy of American States, crowds lined the street to see him ride to and from his lodgings. This was not because he represented and upstart little nation fighting for its independence. Instead, it was because he was already world famous as a scholar, scientist, and philosopher. Of formal schooling he had almost none; but even by today's standards, he was a highly educated man. — V. Orval Watts

“It's time to admit that
public education operates like a planned economy, a bureaucratic system
in which everybody's role is spelled out in advance and there are few
incentives for innovation and productivity. It's no surprise that our
school system doesn't improve; it more resembles the communist economy
than our own market economy.”
