ISLAM AND COMMERCE

By Donald M. Heavrin

The presence of the great god Democracy has not slowed the murder rate in Iraq.  This weekend 66 people were killed by a car bomb in Baghdad.  We have become so desensitized to murder in Iraq the story only made it to page 14.  In another year, minor slaughter, less than 100, will not be reported at all.

The great failure in Arab countries is that the populace is consumed with doing the work of Allah.  This creates a second problem – everyone thinks he knows what Allah is thinking and therefore he is authorized to kill at will those who disagree with his view of the Divine.  The constant fighting makes it impossible for commerce to occur.  No one works; the populace is too busy killing and praying.  If Ford put a car plant in an Islamic country, they would never finish the first car.  In China, free enterprise is creeping in, while in the USA free enterprise is creeping out under the weight of oppressive government regulations.  In China, the leaders finally realized that a free economy allows everyone to elevate his standard of living and enjoy a more comfortable lifestyle.  Meanwhile back at the Islam ranch, there is no commerce.  They only have oil and prayer.  The oil fields were developed by US companies and only produce income for a few, while prayer does not bring much money in the world market place.  And when everyone stops and prays six times a day, plus time for food, sleep, child care and education, there isn’t enough time to do anything foolish like build a car.

When a society is dedicated to destruction vs construction, there’s no way to reason with the populace.  When people concentrate on tearing down another culture’s standard of living instead of building up their own, democracy is not going to stop the destruction.

Meanwhile back in Mexico there’s an election that is, according to the

newspaper, a contest between the haves and the have-nots.   It is the same

story that has been repeated through history.  I’m poor because someone else is rich.  I’m a failure because someone else has been successful.  Therefore instead of going to work I am going to elect a leader who promises to steal from the rich and give the loot to me. Call it anything you want to call it, it is still theft authorized by big brother.
