Commentaries by:
“[State controlled] education is a weapon, whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.” – Joseph Stalin
"[I]f you serve a child a rotten hamburger in America, federal, state, and local agencies will investigate you, summon you, close you down, whatever. But if you provide a child with a rotten education, nothing happens, except that you're liable to be given more money to do it with." --Ronald Reagan
“Give me four
years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be
uprooted.” - Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (1870-1924) |
"It is the manners and spirit of a people which preserve a republic in vigor. A degeneracy in these is a canker which soon eats to the heart of its laws and constitution." -- Thomas Jefferson
Medicare, Sex Offenders, County Jails, and Gay Games By Theresa Fritz Camoriano 1. Medicare - Last week, I told you that my mother-in-law had just had a massive cerebral hemorrhage and was not expected to survive. Thankfully, she did survive. She then underwent an amazing catheterization procedure to repair the aneurism in her brain, and, while things are still dicey at the moment, we are hopeful that she will make a good recovery. This medical emergency happened while she was visiting a friend in Canada, and, as a result of this experience, we have learned that Medicare does not apply outside of the United States. (Nor can Canadians use their government insurance outside of Canada.) Whereas private health insurers generally cover you wherever you happen to be when a medical emergency strikes, our wonderfully expensive, obligatory government medical insurance leaves us totally bare if we happen to have a medical emergency outside the country. Paying in Blood for Liberal Arrogance. By Justin Darr If there is one trait that defines Liberalism, it is a hatred for consequences. No matter what the circumstance, Liberals try to ignore, avoid, or blame others for the consequences of their own actions. Normally this would not be a problem; everyone should be free to live as goofy a life as they please, even if it happens to entail stumbling about blindly within a fog of their own self-delusions. However, the problem with Liberals is they cannot just be content with screwing up their own lives; they have to screw up the lives of those around them as well. (click to read more)
ISLAM AND COMMERCE By Donald M. Heavrin The presence of the great god Democracy has not slowed the murder rate in Iraq. This weekend 66 people were killed by a car bomb in Baghdad. We have become so desensitized to murder in Iraq the story only made it to page 14. In another year, minor slaughter, less than 100, will not be reported at all. The great failure in Arab countries is that the populace is consumed with doing the work of Allah. This creates a second problem – everyone thinks he knows what Allah is thinking and therefore he is authorized to kill at will those who disagree with his view of the Divine. The constant fighting makes it impossible for commerce to occur. No one works; the populace is too busy killing and praying. (click to read more)
Why are things the way they are? By David Schlosser, candidate for U.S. Congress Week of 5th July 2006 http://www.schlosserforcongress.com/media-press/op-ed/060705_Why_things_are.php Jesse “Big Daddy” Unruh, a pivotal Democratic political figure during the 1950s and 1960s and state treasurer of California from 1975 until 1987, famously remarked that “[m]oney is the mother's milk of politics.” Following the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision on campaign finance in Randall v. Sorrell, Americans have embarked on a session of hand-wringing over Unruh’s self-evident declaration. (click to read more)
Terry’s Tidbits By Terry Gray Marxism 101: "We know that no one person can succeed unless everybody else succeeds." Howard Dean Funnies and Dummies -The government wants to bust the N.Y. Times for printing some “revealing” information about the war on terror. I thought our national security professionals were supposed to protect this kind of stuff. My response to the blow-hard politicians who want to damage the first amendment is to tell them that if they don’t want information printed, don’t release it. (click to read more)
The Other Minutemen: Missile Defense Arrives, Just in Time By Rod D. Martin, 4 July 2006 Every day brings news of the Minutemen on Mexico’s border; and on this 230th birthday of the American idea, we recall the original Minutemen, who stood ready to meet the British threat at a moment's notice. But little noticed even by those conservatives who hungered for its creation since long before Ronald Reagan’s 1983 “Star Wars” speech, another Minuteman stands ready this Fourth of July. And in its job, minutes are the difference between life and millions of deaths. (click to read more)
"[T]he threat to liberty in the 21st century is the same as it has been throughout mankind's history. That threat is use of the coercive powers of government, under the color of law, to take the rightful property of some people and give to others, and the forcible imposition of the will of one group of people on another group. Such acts, most often done in the name of good, explain the ugliest portions of human history. The question is whether America will degenerate into what has been mankind's standard fare throughout history. We have yet to see the kind of arbitrary control, abuse and violation of basic human rights seen elsewhere. But if we ask ourselves which way are we heading, tiny steps at a time: toward more personal liberty or toward greater government control over our lives, the answer would unambiguously be the latter. We Americans face an awesome challenge and responsibility because if liberty dies here, it's probably dead for all places and all times." ---Walter Williams

The National Federation of Independent Business estimates that if the federal minimum wage is increased to $6.65 per hour, nearly 217,000 workers would lose their jobs. The long-run consequences would be even more severe, as employers introduced labor-saving equipment and technology. http://www.cato.org /pub_display.php?pub_id=6484 ) Liberals are more upset when a tree is chopped down than when a child is aborted. Even if one rates an unborn child less than a full-blown person, doesn’t the unborn child rate slightly higher than vegetation? – Ann Coulter "Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts." Daniel Patrick Moynihan
"A free people [claim] their rights as derived from the laws of nature, and not as the gift of their chief magistrate." ---Thomas Jefferson
Liberals are constantly accusing Christians of being intolerant and self-righteous, but the most earnest Christian has never approached the preachy intolerance of a liberal who has just discovered a lit cigarette in a nonsmoking section. – Ann Coulter
