“[State controlled] education is a weapon, whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.” – Joseph Stalin
"[I]f you serve a child a rotten hamburger in America, federal, state, and local agencies will investigate you, summon you, close you down, whatever. But if you provide a child with a rotten education, nothing happens, except that you're liable to be given more money to do it with." --Ronald Reagan
“Give me four
years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be
uprooted.” - Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (1870-1924) |
The beauty of doing nothing is that you can do it perfectly. Only when you do something is it almost impossible to do it without mistakes. Therefore people who are contributing nothing to society except their constant criticisms can feel both intellectually and morally superior. – Thomas Sowell
The importance of fathers By Theresa Fritz Camoriano Fathers have taken a real beating in our society in the past forty years. The man-hating feminist movement has declared them to be unnecessary, and the welfare state has pushed them aside in favor of a welfare check. Many people have not appreciated the important role fathers play, with the result being that many children have grown up without the influence of a father. Unfortunately, we are now reaping the results of this lack of fathers, as we see many seriously maladjusted children and adults. Let’s hope we have learned the error of our ways and will again come to appreciate what good fathers do for their families and for our entire society, so the next generation of young men will play the roles they were meant to play and the next generation of children will have the benefit of growing up with both parents...(click to read more)
Charles A. Lindbergh's Des Moines Speech By Gordon Francis Corbett Of all famous Americans of the twentieth Century, few have excited such adulation and controversy as did Colonel Charles Augustus Lindbergh. The adulation came from his famous first solo flight from New York to Paris in 1927. The controversy resulted from his opposing President Franklin D. Roosevelt's efforts to have the United States join Great Britain in its war with Germany...(click to read more)
Business taxes: Who pays? By Aaron L. MorrisTaxing businesses is popular politics these days. Even those few lawmakers who see the value of keeping taxes low and predictable find it hard to resist the allure of seemingly “free” money that could be used for lots of local projects. After all, can’t businesses simply pass on extra taxes to their unsuspecting customers?...(click to read more)
“Comprehensive” Sellout Illegal immigration, the Senate and the White House By Tom DeWeese There are moments in history when destiny is determined. President Bush and the U.S. Senate now face such a moment as they determine the course of U.S. immigration policy. For this is not simply a policy decision to be based on petty political maneuverings of the day. Ultimately they are deciding the future of the United States of America. Greatness divides the statesmen from the political hucksters...(click to read more)
Frankfort’s favorites (from the Bluegrass Institute) The U.S. Supreme Court ruled recently that Ohio’s government-sponsored tax incentive program is constitutional. Still, it doesn’t mean that such an approach to economic development is good for states or their taxpayers...(click title to read more) It simply means that economic bureaucrats and their supporting cast of politicians can still play favorites with taxpayers’ dollars by deeming certain companies eligible for government-funded handouts...(click to read more)
Sesquicentennial: The Grand Old Party at 150 By Rod D. Martin, 17 June 2006...(click to read more) "For the past century-and-a-half, the Republican Party has proven to be the most effective political organization ever to champion equality and human rights in the United States and around the world." -- Michael Zak
"Our government has no power except that granted it by the people. It is time to check and reverse the growth of government, which shows signs of having grown beyond the consent of the governed. It is my intention to curb the size and influence of the Federal establishment and to demand recognition of the distinction between the powers granted to the Federal Government and those reserved to the States or to the people. All of us need to be reminded that the Federal Government did not create the States; the States created the Federal Government. Now, so there will be no misunderstanding, it's not my intention to do away with government. It is rather to make it work---work with us, not over us; to stand by our side, not ride on our back. Government can and must provide opportunity, not smother it; foster productivity, not stifle it." ---Ronald Reagan

"That the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not a sufficient warrant. He cannot rightfully be compelled to do or forbear because it will be better for him to do so, because it will make him happier, because, in the opinions of others, to do so would be wise, or even right. These are good reasons for remonstrating with him, or reasoning with him, or persuading him, or entreating him, but not for compelling him, or visiting him with any evil, in case he do otherwise." ---John Stuart Mill It is amazing how many people mistake a certain hip snideness for sophistication. – Thomas Sowell At least half of the popular fallacies about economics come from assuming that economic activity is a zero-sum game, in which what is gained by someone is lost by someone else. But transactions would not continue unless both sides gained, whether in international trade, employment, or renting an apartment. – Thomas Sowell
