Terry’s Tidbits

June 12, 2006

Really Silly Stuff

-Fox News reported a missing baby this week.  They reported that he was “…last seen wearing a diaper and white socks.”

-From “The Onion”:  “NSA wiretap reveals that man spends too much on long distance.”

-The epitome of elitism?  Ernie Fletcher on vacation in Florida while he is indicted in a Kentucky court.

-If you threaten suicide in Louisville the cops will shoot you.

I’m Sick

Now I have an excuse for yelling at the idiot turning left from the right lane with no turn signal.  I don’t have to fret about my anger any more when I’m trying to get out at a stop sign and some jerk turns without a turn signal, leaving me sitting there waiting for the next break in traffic.  My temper isn’t to blame when I bang the steering wheel and lay on the horn when grandpa in front of me is doing 15 on a busy highway while looking for a – who knows what.  I have a treatable disease – intermittent explosive disorder.

For all of these years I thought there were a lot of stupid and rude drivers on the road.  Now I know that everyone drives just fine while I’m the one who has the problem.  Fortunately it is treatable.

I encountered a mad driver recently and I asked him if he knew he had a disease.  I told him that he could get some help for that and then I had to run, literally.  I wonder if psychologists have ever considered that some people are just plain old rednecks.

Now instead of ambulance chasing lawyers can we expect mad-driver chasing psychologists?

I just wonder what kind of treatment there will be for those who scream through red lights and then explode because they get caught.

Bush Priorities

There is a war on – one that Bush ordered.  Our borders are being overrun – a fiasco condoned by Bush.  New Orleans lies in ruins.  Healthcare costs are soaring.  Recession is hanging around just waiting to jump on us.  Republicans are jumping ship on the current administration and those that don’t jump ship will likely be overthrown by voters.  The Constitution of the United States of America, that little document that guarantees the rights and freedoms of the American people, has been laid aside in the name of security – false security at that.  Gays want to get married.

Bush declared the war to be over about 2 years ago but Americans are still dying in the desert.  One-fifth of the Mexican population now lives in the United States, waving their flag above ours and demanding American rights while Bush calls Vicente Fox a friend to America.  New Orleans didn’t have a chance in hell of doing any better than it did during Katrina; apparently neither did FEMA.  I don’t wish to place all of our woes on the plate of George W.; the feds don’t owe us healthcare.  The problem is that the feds take on the problem anyway, digging into the pockets of hard working well people in order to finance the sick.  After six years in office and the boat load of spending that the president has done on his socialist shopping spree, the impending recession or worse, is indeed his fault.  Most of those jumping the Bush ship are simply getting off the rocking boat in any port to save their own hides. The raping of our Constitution by this socialist regime is the fault of George W. and his cohorts.  Gays want to get married and Bush wants to change our Constitution to keep them from doing so.

I see a lot of stupidity in this administration’s attention to the gay thing.  First and foremost is the idea of raping the Constitution until it means little and then wanting to change the Constitution to stop free Americans from committing a “moral sin”.  Isn’t that kind of like disregarding one’s marriage vow of fidelity until the marriage means little and then seeking to amend the marriage contract to forbid beets in the house?

Banning gay marriage serves two purposes for this insane administration.  The first is that it sends a message to unrelenting and judgmental Christian conservatives that Bush is still thinking of them.  Second is that it is a diversion from all the other important issues facing our mental midget president.  Americans fall for diversions like they fall for a cute puppy - they ooh and ah until the puppy craps on the carpet.  It doesn’t matter that while they were fawning over Rover their roof was burning.  Somebody else will fix the roof but the puppy lovers will likely have to clean up the crap themselves.

One sure way to ensure that gay marriage will be accepted is for it to begin happening between illegal aliens and Americans.  Bush’s head would explode with the dilemma.

Louisville’s Homeless

It must be “Homeless Month” in Louisville.  The local media is giving coverage to several homeless folks hanging out in front of the courthouse.  They carry signs like, “Affordable housing” and “Domestic violence”.

I’m sure that there are some homeless who have truly fallen on bad times through no fault of their own.  Karma sometimes deals cruel hands.  Still, why do they feel that society is responsible for their recovery?  Many homeless are just plain lazy and expect society to take care of them.

Let’s take a quick look at the subject of affordable housing.  One third of Louisville’s homeless living in shelters average $6.30 per hour in wages.  (Kentucky follows the federal minimum wage law of $5.15.)  What do they consider affordable housing?  They are living for free and making more than minimum wage.  Are they essentially demanding free homes?  What do they want?

What about domestic violence?  I can see how this could make someone homeless but how is that something that can be used as justification for taxpayers being required to provide shelter for the victim?

Many people in this country have been homeless.  Many of those former homeless have pulled themselves up and moved on.  If one truly wants to be more in life, one will be more in life.

Veterans make up 23% of Kentucky’s homeless.  This is inexcusable.  The V.A., though not our mother, provides help for veterans suffering from many maladies.  Alcohol, drug abuse, illness, and injury, can easily pave the way for veterans to get treatment, education, and job placement.  There is no reason for Kentucky’s veterans to be homeless.  The choice is theirs.  I never give money to those holding signs that say they are homeless veterans.  Sometimes I do stop and ask them what they are doing about their homelessness and joblessness.  I get a lot of excuses, most through a haze of alcohol.

All of you, from veterans to single mothers, please seek help.  This means more than taking an hour away from your begging in order to picket society for freebies.  If you make an effort to get out of your situation, there is help for you.  If you don’t take advantage of this help, don’t complain.
