Preserving a vision part 3 – Thomas Sowell The New York Times of May 21 featured estimates of how much revenue the federal government is losing as a result of tax cuts, more than $50 billion over a five-year period. Meanwhile, a front-page story in the Wall Street Journal reported the government as receiving "a surge in unanticipated revenue coming from the rich."

There is no contradiction between these two stories. The Times reported estimates, while the Wall Street Journal reported what actually happened. http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/thomassowell/2006/06/01/199425.html

Instead of creating a separate class of citizens who are immune from oppressive government rules, how about relieving all of us -- even us shiftless Americans -- from the cost of government? – Ann Coulter http://www.humaneventsonline.com/article.php?id=15293&o=ANN001

Economics of prices – Walter Williams You might own a house that you purchased for $55,000 in 1960 that you put on the market for a half-million dollars. I'd simply accuse you of price-gouging and demand that you sell me the house for what you paid for it, maybe adding on a bit for inflation since 1960. I'm betting you'd say, "Williams, if I sold you my house for what I paid for it in 1960, how will I be able to pay today's prices for a house to live in?" http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/walterwilliams/2006/05/31/199217.html

Preserving a vision  part 1 Every one of these beneficial trends sharply reversed after liberal notions gained ascendancy during in the 1960s. …As for black economic advances, the most dramatic reduction in poverty among blacks occurred between 1940 and 1960, when the black poverty rate was cut almost in half, without any major government programs of the Great Society kind that began in the 1960s. http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/thomassowell/2006/05/30/199170.html and part 2 – Thomas Sowell  The poor are the very lifeblood of the left, attracting activists, support among the intelligentsia, and -- perhaps most important -- allowing the left to indulge in self-congratulation as people who "care." But, if they really cared, they would want to know what the facts are and what the actual consequences of their various nostrums are. http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/thomassowell/2006/05/31/199218.html

Bordering on fraud Part 3 – Thomas Sowell Some people are worried that amnesty will give illegal aliens the same rights that American citizens have. In reality, it will give the illegals more rights than the average American citizen. …What the immigration bill in the Senate has become is just another attempt to pander to another special interest, in disregard of how that affects the country as a whole. http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/thomassowell/2006/05/25/198692.html
