National Shopping Day to Counter Immigrant
Boycott
May 1 is going to be "A Day Without Illegal
Aliens." This is supposed to frighten you.
Why? Because you are an American -- weak,
pampered, spoiled and allegedly incapable of
taking care of yourself. You need the illegal
alien servant class just to survive.
Those who want amnesty for immigration
criminals -- illegal aliens, pandering
politicians, ethnic grievance agitators and the
politically correct media -- have swallowed
their own propaganda and believe that the
American economy is totally dependent for its
greatness on unskilled illegal labor and the
corrupt underground economy it fosters.

Assemblyman Chuck DeVore: Calif. Dems
Cancel Work, But Keep Pay
Democrat leaders of the California State
Assembly have decided to call their own boycott
for May 1, canceling legislative session that
day in deference to the protests. But, showing
that their commitment only goes so far, they
declared Monday a "check-in" day so as not to
forfeit their $459 tax-free per diem for the
weekend and Monday.

Michelle Malkin: The Victims of Illegal
Immigration
President Bush accuses those of us who want to
secure America's borders and fully enforce our
immigration laws of lacking "compassion." Huh.
Well, I have yet to hear an ounce of compassion
from President Bush for America's countless
casualties of lax immigration enforcement.
Where's the sympathy for innocent, law-abiding
citizens who have lost their lives at the hands
of illegal aliens and their open-borders
enablers?

Terry Jeffrey: Nice Catch for Homeland Security
After Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents
last week secured criminal charges against seven
current and former corporate managers and
detained 1,187 illegal aliens working for IFCO
Systems, a pallet and plastic-container company,
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff
said this was just the first step in a new
campaign to strictly enforce the law against
large-scale employers of illegal aliens.

Mac Johnson: The O'Reilly Fiction
I have a friend who is fond of the saying,
"Analogy is the lowest form of reason." Perhaps
-- but conspiracy theory is not far behind.
There is something really emotionally satisfying
about the idea that bad things are all part of a
plot and you know who the plotters are. To start
with it's simple. There's no need to study
macroeconomics or history or anything else with
a lot of math or footnotes involved. Your answer
is as understandable as the last episode of
"Survivor."

Steven Milloy: 'Green' Politicians Add to Gas
Price Woes
Bowing to environmentalist demands since the
1970s, Congress has blocked oil and gas drilling
from sources like the Arctic National Wildlife
Refuge (10.4 billion barrels of oil, according
to the U.S. Geological Service) and the Outer
Continental Shelf (86 billion barrels of oil,
according to the Minerals Management Service).

Pat Buchanan: Prosecute McCarthy, Send Her to
Prison
Mary McCarthy, special assistant to President
Clinton and senior director of intelligence in
his White House, has been fired by the CIA.
McCarthy allegedly told the Washington Post our
NATO allies were secretly letting the CIA
operate bases on their soil for the
interrogation of terror suspects. Apparently,
McCarthy failed several polygraph tests, after
which she confessed. If true, she was faithless
to her oath, betrayed the trust of her country,
damaged America's ties to foreign intelligence
agencies and governments, and broke the law.

Carrie Lukas: Why the Fuss Over Gender
Differences?
A study published this week revealed some
shocking news: Men out perform women on
timed-tasks. "If you look at the ability of
someone to perform well in a timed situation,
males have a big advantage," the report's author
commented. Naturally, feminist groups are crying
foul.

It's Hard Out Here for a Pump
I would be more interested in what the Democrats
had to say about high gas prices if these were
not the same people who refused to let us drill
for oil in Alaska, imposed massive restrictions
on building new refineries, and who shut down
the development of nuclear power in this country
decades ago.

This Week's Top 10 List |
|
Top 10 Liberal Cities
Ranked by the editors of HUMAN EVENTS.The
following quotes are my 10 favorite from my new
book, "I've Always Been a Yankees Fan: Hillary
Clinton In Her Own Words."
10. Seattle, Wash.
Well known for its environmentalist
population. Home of Democrat Rep. Jim
McDermott (ACU lifetime: 2%; 2005: 0%) who
once claimed Saddam Hussein is more credible
than President Bush and omitted the words
"under God" when leading the Pledge of
Allegiance on the House floor. Location of
Clinton's 1999 WTO meetings marked by
rioters protesting globalism, where more
than 500 people were arrested.
9. Newark, N.J.
One of the most densely populated and
crime-ridden cities in the country. Liberal
Democratic Rep. Donald Payne (ACU lifetime:
3%; 2005: 0%), who has been easily reelected
since taking office in 1998, said the war in
Iraq could "have been avoided through
diplomacy" and defended Kofi Annan in
oil-for-food scandals. Easily the most
liberal city in the Democratic enclave of
New Jersey.
8. Berkeley, Calif.
Known as home to liberal University of
California. Represented by Democratic Rep.
Barbara Lee (ACU lifetime: 4%; 2005 4%).
Denied rent subsidy to the Sea Scouts
because its parent organization, the Boy
Scouts, excludes gays and atheists.
According to The Almanac of American
Politics, city council in 2004 passed
resolution demanding "censure of President
Bush for a litany of grievances."

Our Majority Is In Jeopardy
I know a little something about adventure.In
the late 1970s, the leader of the Republican
minority in the U.S. House of Representatives
used to greet newly elected Republican members
with a white flag of surrender. "Every day I
wake up and look in the mirror and say to
myself, 'Today you're going to be a loser,'"
said the former minority leader. "And after
you're here awhile, you'll start to feel the
same way. But don't let it bother you. You'll
get used to it."

Tourist Jihad in Egypt
The explosions Monday night in Dahab, an
Egyptian resort city, killing at least 30 and
wounding many more, was the 16th attack on
foreign tourists in Egypt since 1992. Egyptian
authorities have linked at least some of these
attacks to groups that want to establish an
Islamic state in Egypt -- principally Egyptian
Islamic Jihad and Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman's
Al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya. Sheikh Omar, of course,
is now serving a life term in federal prison in
Colorado for his role in masterminding the 1993
World Trade Center bombing..

Legislative Lowdown |

Energy Policy Threatens Our Security
It's easy to identify the roots of our
dysfunctional national energy policy. Knee-jerk
environmentalism, "not in my backyard"
parochialism, or the ferocious zeal of
entrenched special interests repeatedly combine
to block good ideas or promote bad ones. The
route to true energy independence will require
simultaneous progress on many fronts, none of
which is by itself a silver bullet. Sadly,
Congress has considered and thus far rejected
many sensible proposals that, had they
prevailed, would have improved our energy
situation significantly.

Dean's DNC Continues to Lose Relevance
The Washington Post recently ran a piece
highlighting the fact that the Democrats'
Congressional Committee is at parity with the
Republicans in cash on hand and that their
Senatorial Committee has doubled up the NRSC in
cash on hand (although the two have raised about
the same amount). This is all true, and it is
not good for Republicans. However, there has
been some exaggeration as to just how bad it is.
