Zoning is theft - Just as the developer can use government to roll over the rights of property owners, property owners — community members — can use government to roll over the rights of developers and fellow property owners. …You see, lost in all this is the simple desire of a farmer and his wife to retire and enjoy life, and maybe leave a little for their grandchildren. Every hand looking for a piece of the development pie is not robbing the developer and redistributing supposed unearned profits; those hands are robbing the farmer and his wife of their property value. http://www.mises.org/story/2077
Busybodies or tyrants? – Walter Williams CSPI's director, Michael Jacobson, said, "We could envision taxes on butter, potato chips, whole milk, cheeses, [and] meat," adding that "CSPI is proud about finding something wrong with practically everything." … Consumers will pay for all of this in the form of higher food prices and fewer choices. There's also the possibility that food zealots in some cities, emboldened by the success of the anti-smoking zealots in Calabasas, who are concerned about smokers passing on bad habits to our youth, might call for an ordinance banning public appearance of obese people so as not to pass bad eating habits on to our children. http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/walterwilliams/2006/03/22/190625.html
Alternatives to reality – Thomas Sowell Few in the media or among the intelligentsia have been as outraged about these sadistic crimes against children as they have been about whether terrorists' phone calls have been intercepted. … Going to jail doesn't repay anything. People are put behind bars as punishment and to keep them out of circulation. Child victims of rape and murder cannot be made whole. The debt can never be repaid. The most we can hope for is to spare other children and their parents from the anguish inflicted by evil people -- not "sick" people, but evil people. http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/thomassowell/2006/03/21/190623.html
Socialism makes people worse – Dennis Prager Socialism teaches its citizens to expect everything, even if they contribute nothing. … Under socialism, one is not only liberated from having to take care of oneself; one is also liberated from having to take care of others. The state will take care of me and of everybody else…. No matter how pure their motives, the Left makes America and its citizens less noble people, just like the spoiled French students. http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/dennisprager/2006/03/21/190622.html
Counterfeit salt - The same Republican cheerleaders, (O’Reilly claims to be independent), who greased the skids for Bush’s magic carpet ride, today are the same voices that pooper-scoop away the debris the Bush presidency has left on the rug. http://www.newswithviews.com/Daubenmire/dave17.htm
Leadership for a nation adrift – Star Parker As we spread freedom around the world, I think there is concern, judging from much of what we see going on at home, that we're losing a sense of what the pillars are that hold our own free society together. If we're losing our compass at home, can we really spread the word abroad? … We know from what we have seen in our own communities that when core traditional values collapse, when the integrity of families collapses, when life becomes cheap, when property has no meaning, there is no freedom. http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/StarParker/2006/03/20/190455.html
Hispanic immigrants becoming Americans Hispanic entrepreneurs are becoming an increasingly vital part of the economic engine that drives this nation. Hispanics aren't turning the U.S. into a Latin American outpost; they are being transformed into the quintessential American: the small and not-so-small businessman and woman. http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/lindachavez/2006/03/22/190857.html
French student riots – Thomas Sowell Student riots in Paris remind us that education at elite academic institutions is not enough to teach either higher morals or basic economics. ...It is elementary economics that adding to the costs, including risks, of hiring workers tends to reduce the number of workers hired. http://capmag.com/article.asp?ID=4606
Youth indoctrination update – Walter Williams It's academic and intellectual dishonesty when a teacher, who is supposed to be teaching geography, uses his classroom to indoctrinate relatively uninformed teenagers. http://capmag.com/article.asp?ID=4605
Why does Hillary Clinton fear Condoleezza Rice? – Walter Williams If blacks come to embrace triumph, rather than grievance, the wound to liberal Democrats would be mortal. http://capmag.com/article.asp?ID=4600
New Hampshire rejects national ID This is an amazing and truly magnificent example of Americans who serve in a state legislature standing up to the bullying and "unfunded mandates" coming out of Washington in an effort to enslave we the people. The so-called 'National ID" has nothing to do with tracking terrorists and everything to do with turning we the people into numbered cattle to be tracked and harassed…. One of the insidious provisions of this so-called National ID is that you won't be able to enter a federal facility, fly or take Amtrak. This is a violation of your right to travel and I have provided a healthy dose of case law here. In your letter to your state rep, senator and governor, politely tell them you and others will file a lawsuit to stop this national ID because it violates your constitutional rights. http://www.newswithviews.com/Devvy/kidd177.htm

Russo movie is making waves Last Thursday evening, “America…From Freedom to Fascism" played at downtown Chicago’s upscale independent bookstore, Transitions Bookplace. http://www.givemeliberty.org/RTPLawsuit/Update2006-03-21.htm
Taxes matter - Federal spending is a large and growing problem. Trying to patch over that problem with high tax rates on high incomes would do nothing to reduce the economic burden of federal spending. But it would create many other nasty problems. http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/alanreynolds/2006/03/23/190920.html
