Ancient wisdom for an old problem – corruption in government - Some might say that contemporary problems require more contemporary solutions. Centuries-old arguments are antiquated and unrealistic. To the contrary: the disease of government corruption is ancient and its antidote, though elusive, has long been known. Addressing it adequately requires not so much innovative lawmaking as renewed dedication to the venerable principles of limited government and moral restraint. http://www.acton.org/ppolicy/comment/article.php?article=312 Something for nothing (part 1) – Thomas Sowell Many of us who receive money from Social Security or other government programs are learning the hard way the difference between money with strings and money without strings. For example, Social Security recipients have to be enrolled in Medicare, whether they want to be or not. "Universal" coverage means compulsory coverage, just with prettier political spin. … The baby boomers, who are beginning to turn sixty, are unlikely to get back all the money they paid into Social Security, with or without strings. The illusion that Social Security can provide pensions more cheaply than a private annuity or other retirement plan is the grand something-for-nothing political triumph. The baby boomers are going to pay the price big time. http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/thomassowell/2006/02/28/188012.html And part 2 Minimum wage laws are like protective tariffs insulating unionized workers from the competition of other workers. It is robbing a less affluent Peter to pay a more affluent Paul -- all the while using noble rhetoric that appeals to the uninformed and the unthinking, which includes many people with fancy degrees and even fancier illusions about their own higher sense of compassion. http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/thomassowell/2006/03/01/188160.html And part 3 The South African government refuses to admit that an unrealistically high minimum wage rate has anything to do with the high unemployment rate. In other words, they think that they can pass a law to give workers something for nothing. … For politicians, however, killing the goose that lays the golden eggs is a viable strategy, provided that the goose doesn't die before the next election. Provided also that people have short memories, don't connect the dots, and don't keep in mind that there is no such thing as something for nothing. http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/thomassowell/2006/03/02/188387.html
How to create conflict – Walter Williams Majority rule is a zero-sum game with winners and losers, with winners having the power to impose their wills on the minority. Conflict emerges when the minority resists…. The Swiss cantonal system enables people of different ethnicity, language, culture and religion to live at peace with one another. As such, Switzerland's political system is well suited to an ethnically and religiously divided country such as Iraq. http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/walterwilliams/2006/03/01/188010.html

The importance of education choice in ending poverty – Star Parker There are indeed two Americas. One revolves around traditional family, is more educated and populates the higher income portion of the spectrum. The other revolves around broken families, is poorly educated, and populates the lower end of the income spectrum….I suggest that no black American cast a vote for any candidate of either party that does not support school choice. http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/StarParker/2006/02/27/187911.html
Competition Works – John Stossel We do know that competition works. It works because it gives people the chance to be creative. Educational experts, freed from the massive regulations that snarl the public schools, can come up with new and better ideas for teaching. Competition works because it gives people incentives to produce -- it inspires them to work constantly at trying to find better ways to please their customers. The bad producers lose their jobs -- but the best ones gain new customers. Bad schools will close and better schools will open. … Would you keep going back to a restaurant that served you a bad meal? Or a barber that gave you a bad haircut? Competition makes everything better. Why would schools be different? http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/JohnStossel/2006/03/01/188220.html
Public schools are un-American -If parents have the natural right to nurture and educate their children, then any law that interferes with or violates that natural right is illegitimate. Any such law violates the basic liberties we all have as parents, human beings, and Americans. That means that all local and State compulsory attendence laws, compulsory school taxes, and the thousands of other local and State education regulations that prop up the public schools, are illigitimate and violate parents' fundamental natural and constitutional rights. http://www.newswithviews.com/Turtel/joel10.htm
Solution to the evolution – end government school monopoly The potential benefits go well beyond this little issue here, of evolution vs. intelligent design. What will result from education fully decentralized and out of the hands of bureaucrats is a growing population of better educated children, eventually teenagers, and eventually adults prepared to assume some responsibility in this culture. http://www.newswithviews.com/Yates/steven16.htm
Why I wrote the book criticizing George Bush – Bruce Bartlett My basic argument is that Mr. Bush has enacted policies contrary to conservative principles on too many occasions. … The last time a Republican president—Richard Nixon—sold out his party’s core beliefs, it led to huge losses for his party in 1974 and 1976. … I wrote my book so that Republicans and conservatives can start a debate about the future of the party and the movement. If we wait until 2008, it will be much too late. http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/brucebartlett/2006/02/28/188014.html
Why the left doesn’t blame Muslims for Muslim violence – Dennis Prager One is that liberals tend to blame outside forces for evil. … The second explanation is that as you go further left on the political spectrum, it becomes increasingly difficult to blame the "weak" for any atrocities they commit. … And third, liberals tend to be afraid of the truly evil. … We don't know who will be the next target of Islamic or other murderers from poor or non-Western or non-white groups. All we can know is that liberal and leftist thought will find reasons to hold the targeted group largely responsible. http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/dennisprager/2006/02/28/188047.html

Brokeback Mountain - Raping the Marlboro Man – David Kupelian a brilliant, emotionally compelling propaganda film using every cinematic trick in the book to glorify homosexuality while maligning heterosexual marriage and family. http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=48076
Genocide better than self-defense? – Larry Pratt They use the term "non-state actors" to describe those who should not have guns. Guess who a non-state actor is. Rwandan victims of genocide. Southern Sudanese freedom fighters. Karen refugees in Burma. Average, hard-working Americans? …It is time to deliver a message to the Clueless Ones at Homeland "Security." The President, Senate and House of Representatives need to hear that a better definition of "terrorist" is needed. Self defense hardly belongs in the definition of terrorist. http://www.newswithviews.com/Pratt/larry56.htm
