Terry’s Tidbits

February 13, 2006

Terry Gray

“Naturally the common people don’t want war, but after all, it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a parliament or a communist dictatorship.  Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders.  This is easy.  All you have to do is tell them that they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger.  It works the same in every country.”  Herman Goering – speaking at the Nuremburg Trials after WWII and paraphrased by George W. Bush almost daily.

It seems like every day I hear this mentality vocalized in this country by those who are scared of losing their power.  If you listen to Bush, you’ll find he expresses the exact sentiment as a Nazi leader from WWII while trying to sell his war.

Seat Belts and Stupid People

It takes a moron to stand before lawmakers and tell them that had there been a law requiring her to wear a seatbelt she wouldn’t have been hurt so badly in an accident.  Obviously, the bimbo didn’t know that riding in the car without a seatbelt was dangerous.  Where has she been?

I see this woman on television dramatically and emotionally telling Frankfort to pass a seatbelt law because she wasn’t wearing hers.  Had she been wearing hers, there would be no need for a law to tell us to wear them, would there?

When are people going to get it through their heads that no matter what laws are made we will still endanger ourselves?  When will idiots like her realize that no matter how many laws are passed she’ll still be stupid?  Why does she need a law to make her protect herself?

Every law that is made empowers lawmakers to make more.  Laws serve to create criminals, clog our courts, and crowd our jails.  Laws are almost always of oppressive nature and as such they serve to remove a little more freedom and a little more self-responsibility.  The loss of freedom is self supporting.  As more of our freedoms vanish, the less power we have to fight for what is left.  As more of our self-responsibilities vanish, the more we become reliant on government and laws.

The government loves this.  With more laws comes more control, and more money is needed to uphold those laws to control us.  They raise taxes to pay for keeping us in line, and we pay for it.

This woman who was no doubt pushed to the front of the lobbying effort should be preaching for people to take more responsibility for themselves and not be dummies like her.

Of course the state stands to rake in millions by passing this law, so most her dramatics are wasted anyway.

Payola

What is wrong with Payola?  I cut a song and want it played on the radio.  The radio station and I come to an agreement over price.  This is a free exchange of goods and services.  Who is to tell the radio station owner that he can’t use his equipment and his time to play a record that I want played?

What are commercials?  A lot of commercials are put together by ad agencies and involve actors and music.  The people who want the ad played then pay the radio station to play the ad.  The purpose of the ad is to get people to buy the product.  The purpose of music on the radio is to get people to buy the album or C.D.  Most everyone makes money and is happy.  And instead of listeners hearing the same old crap day in and day out, they may hear some stuff that isn’t normally played, if good old Payola were legal.

          What is lobbying in government?

Nazi Youth

A sixteen year old in Hebron Kentucky turned in his parents for growing pot.  I’m once again reminded of the Nazis of old.  Law enforcement and the media brag about how programs such as “turn in your family” do a great job.

The job is to split families, ruin trust, ruin lives, and seize property while stopping a miniscule amount of marijuana from existing.  Growing pot in and of itself doesn’t come close to the consequences of what law enforcement does to those who are caught.

Only Cowards and Dictators

H.R. 4694, introduced in Congress by Wisconsin Democrat Representative Obey wants to put an end to viable 3rd party candidates by forbidding candidates such as Libertarians from accepting campaign contributions.  Democrats are just as Nazi as Republicans, it seems.

“To finance general elections for the House of Representatives, the FEC is authorized to conduct a major advertising campaign from January 1 to April 15 of each year alerting the public to the existence and purpose of the fund.  Citizens can make voluntary contributions in their federal tax return, which will not add to the deficit because they are a “check-up,” not a “check-off”.  In addition, the fund is supplemented by a fee charged on corporate profits (1/10 of 1% on taxable income above $10 million).

Because costs vary widely from district to district, the Grassroots Good Citizenship Fund would provide each Congressional district with an amount to be distributed amongst the candidates based on the median family income within that district.

That money would be distributed to candidates based on their party’s performance in the last two elections.  Ex:  If the GOP garnered 52% of the vote in the last two elections, their candidates would receive 52% of the money for that district.

Third party and independent candidates are funded based on demonstrated public support in the past 2 elections, using three methods and choosing the one that gives them the highest funding – but they can also gain greater parity with the highest funded candidate through the petition system.”  Dave Obey’s Website.

No candidate for the U.S. House of Representative will be allowed to solicit contributions.  Any money collected will be distributed by a socialist system.  Independent candidates will likely get no money, and they cannot solicit money from contributors.  Further, as an American citizens protected by the Bill of Rights, you will not be able to give money to your candidate, and you will not be able to pay for advertising for your candidate.  If you and a bunch of buddies want to get together to buy some signs to put in your yard to support your candidate, you would be committing a crime.  Corporations, regardless of political affiliation must contribute to the system through taxation, and some of their contribution will likely be used to defeat their candidate.

This moron is not only a waste of American air, he is a scared little boy who tries to change the current rules when he feels the current rules, the same rules that got him elected, may serve to remove his sorry ass from office.  Remember the name Dave Obey.

Peden/Clark

I never vote party lines.  I can’t imagine myself removing the individualism from an election and throwing my hat in one basket of eggs, bad eggs in this case.  However, in this special election coming up on February 13 for the 37th Kentucky Senate seat, I was persuaded by the Republicans.

I keep getting flyers in the mail telling me how bad Perry Clark is. They really got my mind racing and the wheels turning.  Seen in one of these flyers is an old bearded guy in dirty jeans.  His beard is unkept as he sits in a rocker on his front porch.  The caption reads, “Would you let your 12 year old daughter marry this man?”  Hell no I thought; that is ridiculous.  But that is the point.

The Republicans want to usurp a family’s authority and make the rules for all of us.  I will make the decisions in my family, not a bunch of holier-than-thou hypocrites .  The Republicans also don’t look too kindly on working people.  The old guy may be a good, hard-working American that never hurt anyone.  But the Republicans paint us a picture based on appearances and protection of our children.  Appearances can be deceiving.

Peden’s ads say that she represents family values and morals.  Whose family values and morals?  Leave your family values and morals at home and don’t try to stuff the values and morals of the Republican Party down my throat in Frankfort.

Peden might be a nice lady.  She might make a good Senator.  But she needs to tell us what she is about and not what the Republican Party wants us think she is about.

I considered Peden as someone I’d vote for simply because she isn’t a politician.  I like new blood to represent me.  However, it took exactly 10 seconds for the Republican Party to drag her down that aisle of convincing deception that they paint so well of themselves.

The Republicans convinced me to vote party this time.  I’ll be voting against the Republicans; I don’t care who their candidate is.
