Casting Stones Too Soon? By Michael A. Minton

Is it possible that Senate Democrats began casting stones too soon as regards 'Abramoff-gate?' For weeks, all you have been hearing out of the mouths of Democrats is that there is a "culture of corruption" within the Republican party. And while this may be true to some extent, as I pointed out in a previous article, the corruption is far from being a Republican-only problem.

Although I have no use whatsoever for the screaming maniac at the helm for the DNC, if you have been listening to Howard Dean talk about the Abramoff matter, he has chosen his words carefully--in a reckless kind of way.

Although he has insisted that 'Abramoff-gate' is a "Republican scandal," Screamin' Dean has always qualified his statement by saying that no Democrat has taken money (directly) from Jack Abramoff. While this appears to be true, there have been plenty of Democrat lawmakers who have benefited from Abramoff's connections and skills as a lobbyist by receiving funds from Abramoff's Indian tribal clients. And now the fallout is starting to show.

There are big rumors going around that the next victim of the so-called culture of corruption will be none other than the pot which has been calling the kettle black..."Dingy" Harry "big-mouth" Reid (D-NV).

It is now being rumored that Sen. Reid may soon be stepping down from his post as Senate Minority Leader in connection to some $60,000.00 which his political action committee (PAC) received from Indian tribes which have been connected to Jack Abramoff.

The following is taken from the Bullitt County (Kentucky) Republican Party website: "Reid is no stranger to scandal, having been the subject of a 1979 Justice Department probe into allegations that Reid--then Nevada Gaming Commission chairman--had received bribes through mob lawyer Oscar Goodman and Tropicana attorney Jay H. Brown.
The probe officially cleared Reid, but he subsequently received numerous contributions from gambling industry figures, including Brown.
Some Democrats are worried that Reid's continued presence in the Senate leadership undermines Democratic hopes of scoring significant gains this November.
'Reid is going around the country talking about a 'Republican scandal'--about Republicans accepting one- and two-thousand dollar contributions from Jack Abramoff, when his own PAC took in $60,000," ...
Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean, appearing on Fox News Sunday, made no announcements concerning Reid's status, but did comment on the growing controversy.
Moderator Chris Wallace asked Dean, "if we find that there were some Democrats who wrote letters on behalf of some of the Indian tribes that Abramoff represented, then what do you say, sir?"
Without mentioning Reid by name, Dean replied, "That's a big problem. And those Democrats are in trouble. And they should be in trouble."

However, I doubt that this story will get much play in the mainstream media, as it does not fulfill their goal of smearing the Republican party as the only ones in America who are susceptible to the influence of bribery and corruption. I would be very surprised to open my newspaper this morning (the liberal rag The Courier-Journal) and find any mention of this story. If it IS there, I will report it tomorrow--or later today if time allows.

Unfortunately for the Democrats, people don't listen exclusively to the mainstream media. To the liberals' dismay, there are other alternatives now. Fox News Channel dominates cable news, Rush and Hannity own the radio talk show market, and then there's me (hey, if I don't say it, who will?)! We will not let this hypocrisy go unchallenged. And that is what will bring down Sen. Reid.

Once his connections to Abramoff's influence peddling have been outed, Reid will have no alternative but to step down from his leadership post. The liberals have invested too much in this 'culture of corruption' campaign to have it brought down by the mouth from Vegas. The pressure to step down by his fellow Democrats will be so great that trying to stay in power would prove a futile--and possibly fatal--endeavor.

Yes, it would appear as though the Democrats may have gotten ahead of themselves in casting stones. I tried to tell them it was too soon...but what do I know about Right Opinion???
