Liberal Attack
Machine In Full-Battle Mode
by Mike Minton
The liberal Louisville Courier-Journal was in full-battle mode in a big way
again yesterday, in a story called "Democrats Say Troubles In GOP Go Beyond
DeLay."
Now, while I have no problem agreeing that 'Abramoff-gate' will reach deep into
the Republican Party, there is no doubt that the impact will be exponentiated by
the liberal media. By this, I mean that the bare facts of what Republican
lawmakers in Congress are truly guilty of will undoubtedly be bad enough, but
the way the mainstream media is covering it will elevate the impact to what I'm
now prepared to say will be historical levels.
In all fairness, Abramoff, by his very title, is a Republican lobbyist and
fundraiser. It really should come as no surprise to anyone that his efforts were
concentrated more on the "elephants" than the "jackasses." It is hard to be
labeled affiliated with one party if you work harder for another.
However, I am EXTREMELY CONCERNED about the way the press is covering this
story. They act totally oblivious to the FACT that Democrats like Hillary
Clinton, Harry "Big Mouth" Reid, Dick Gephardt, Tom Daschle and Patrick Kennedy,
among others, also profited from Abramoff.
Although I have recently been accused of possessing no critical thinking skills,
there are many things in just the first four paragraphs of the Courier-Journal
story which simply reek with liberal partisanship. I mean, PUHLEEZE! Could they
possibly be more obvious as to which dog they have in this fight?
It starts right at the top, the title, which declares, "Democrats Say...."
Slanted title? I think so. Following the title is the byline, or source of the
story: 'From wire news reports.' Now, this means that either The Courier, as it
is called locally, chose which one-sided stories to use as the genesis for their
story, or they simply couldn't find a single unbiased wire dispatch to cite. Of
course, citing an unbiased source would do nothing to serve their purpose of
smearing Republicans, so I propose that the former is the case. This is an
attack of choice.
The blatant partisanship is continued in paragraphs two and three, where The
Courier continues its "unbiased coverage" by quoting the ultraliberal Nancy
Pelosi, and the even more liberal Rahm Emanuel. This would be like quoting
al-Jazeera as a legitimate source for true analysis of the Iraq war.
Paragraph four of The Courier's story speaks of an "...investigation into
Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff, whose confessions of guilt in connection with
congressional wining and dining threaten to damage the GOP in an election year."
What they fail to mention is that they, along with their liberal counterparts,
plan to make sure this prediction becomes reality.
The rest of the story goes on to slam DeLay and other Republicans, just in case
the first four paragraphs didn't sway you.
I am certainly not trying to say that Republicans are innocent in regard to Jack
Abramoff's influence peddling. In fact, I recently wrote an article titled
"Could Abramoff Actually Be Good For American Politics?," in which I posed the
argument that a good housecleaning (no pun intended) might actually be just what
this great nation needs.
I AM saying, however, that a PROPER housecleaning will be impossible if the
media continues to fail to live up to their most fundamental obligation:
reporting BOTH sides of the story.
As an aside, I took a Critical Thinking Skills class in college, just for the
record.
