Terry’s Tidbits

Like Freedom?  Make Noise.

Wiretapping Free Citizens Isn’t Just for Tyrannical Governments Anymore.

Those Bush supporters who speak up in favor of government spying have a buzz saying to justify the actions of a renegade president.  They tell us that anyone who is concerned about the government spying on its citizens obviously has something to hide.  These folks aren’t even being led to slaughter; they are foaming at their mouths to get there.  I can see ignorant people who are used to government telling them when to breathe falling into a trap that will haunt them for the rest of their short free lives.  But for those who have some sense, getting out in front of the sheeple with axes to make easier the road to the gallows is insane.  There will be no distinguishing you from those following you once you top that final ridge looking down on the massacre.

Just like a thief will steal whatever he can, government will do the same.  The people who are in agreement with wiretapping and other privacy robbing techniques usually reserved for tyrannical governments are just leaving their homes unlocked for the thieves.

Think about this, you have a contract with someone who forces you to pay him money and then spends it on whatever he wishes.  This person is in charge of putting you in jail should you break the laws that he writes.  Few people trust this person.  Now, the contract you have with this person outlines how you will be treated and this contract is such an inherent part of your life that you pay little attention to it.  You go about your daily life assuming that you are safeguarded by this contract that has served to provide freedom for generations.  Why in God’s name would you entrust the above person with the security of that contract?  He also already proved that he isn’t trustworthy.

Recently the President of the United States spit in the faces of all free Americans when he decided that our 4th amendment wasn’t important.  He tossed it out the window as if those who wrote it did so on a whim.  The 4th amendment and all of our other protections are still wet with the blood of those who fought and died to give us our guarantees of freedom and this president grinds it under his feet.  Why in God’s name are there even debates about the right or wrong of such an action?  Every freedom loving American should be calling for Bush’s removal and possible criminal conviction for treason.  Who are you people to defend this tyrant?

As I write this, President Bush is attacking our 1st amendment as a diversionary tactic to his traitorous attack on our 4th amendment.  He wants to find those who told on him and punish them.  Why in God’s name should someone acting within the bounds of our 1st amendment have to defend his actions to a want-to-be dictator who trashed our 4th amendment?  Why is anyone even listening to a criminal trying to point the finger elsewhere?

This isn’t a liberal Democrat talking to you.  I was a registered Republican until a few weeks ago.  Now I’m a registered Libertarian and damn proud of it.  I refuse to throw my hat in the ring with those who would take my money and give it to those too lazy to work or those bent on removing my freedoms and in support of president who has lost all touch with American freedom and the Constitution.

Seatbelts save Money?

Kentucky has a seatbelt law that allows cops to give us tickets for failing to wear our seatbelts only if we disobey another traffic law.  We can’t be cited just for not wearing a seat belt.  Of course this is arbitrary in that if a cop sees us not wearing a seatbelt and he wants to give us a ticket he can conjure up a reason to pull us over.

Now lawmakers want to make non-seatbelt usage a primary offense.  We can be pulled over with no other reason than not wearing our seatbelts.  The proposed law is being justified by saying that it will save taxpayers millions.  How?  I think that they mean that it will make Kentucky millions in traffic fines.

I wear my seatbelt.  I’ve done it for years.  I feel that there are entirely too many stupid people driving our highways who shouldn’t be allowed to leave their homes without escorts for me not to take every precaution.  If I have a tool I’ll use it; I just don’t like to be told that I must use it and I especially don’t like being told that it will save taxpayers money when it won’t.  This is just one more little item on my list of oppressions that will serve to bust my cork eventually.

So there you go; do with it what you will.  I want to know why my representative, Denver Butler, missed doing his job 28 times.  He gets paid to go to work and part of doing his job is voting on laws.  Representatives are paid by the number of days in session.  I want to know if he gets paid when he isn’t there.

Here is a link for you to find your representative or senator and see what votes they missed.  Maybe something important to you was ignored by your elected official.  That ain’t right.  KentuckyVotes.org.

Smoke is Smoke

I wonder how many toxins are in the smoke of the tons of fireworks that our government condones burning every year.  Disney World in Florida, a state with a statewide smoking ban, ignites thousands of fireworks 365 days a year.  There are festivals put on by government where the air becomes thick with acrid smoke from gunpowder and all the kiddos laugh and cough, yet our government doesn’t want an adult to enter a smoky bar.

Now some areas of the country are looking at banning burning wood in fireplaces for warmth.  They say that all the smoke from those fires is polluting the air.  One would think that our wide-eyed leaders would take a look at unneeded smoke before they consider banning smoke from a fire that warms a family.

Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself.  It is possible that the gas and electric companies in those areas considering banning fireplaces are lobbying government to stop the practice.  It makes sense.  Gas and electric companies frequently have monopolies in the areas they serve.  Local governments get kick-backs (we don’t call them that officially) from those companies so that the franchises are protected.  Burning wood reduces the profits of those gas and electric companies and thus reduces the “kick-backs” to local governments.  It is a wonder that wood burning has been allowed this long.

They tell us to lower our thermostats and get out the blankets.  They tell us to caulk, seal, and insulate.  They tell us to prepare for outrageously high heating oil prices.  Then they tell us that they don’t want us burning wood for heat as they prepare to assault our atmosphere with tons of smoke from fireworks.  Oh and they tell us to please support our local bars and restaurants but don’t smoke; you might get a toxin.  I call the toxin – oppression.
