Could Abramoff Actually Be Good For American Politics?
By Mike Minton
I have been trying to stay silent on this issue until all the facts were in, but
I just can't take it anymore. I was reading my local newspaper this morning, the
Louisville Courier-Journal, which, being owned by Gannett, is notorious for its
liberal leanings, when I came across an Associated Press article about the
Abramoff scandal.
I find it rather curious that there is no mention in the article about Democrats
who have received money from this man. Naturally, it doesn't hesitate to talk
about President Bush, Representative DeLay, or his successor Representative
Blunt. It goes on to talk about Representative Ney, as well as House Speaker
Dennis Hastert, all of whom have benefited from Mr. Abramoff's work.
I suppose that, since it is no secret on Capitol Hill that there will be plenty
of guilt on both sides of the aisle and Democrats are unable to put the attack
machine against Republicans into action, the liberal media is going to do it for
them. So that's why Mr. Right Opinion is here--to set the record straight.
I spent quite a while looking for a link that would take me to a list of
recipients, but I was unable to find it. I know it's out there, as I heard about
it the other day, but I can't seem to locate it. However, I did locate several
names in the Democrat Party who have received Abramoff's contributions. They
include: Representative Tom Daschle; Representative Harry (Big Mouth) Reid; Dick
Gephardt; Patrick Kennedy; and I heard on Fox News Channel this morning that
Senator Hillary Clinton also benefited from this lobbyist's skills. So as usual,
the mainstream media is only giving half the story.
I am of the opinion that this may be one of the best things that could happen to
American politics, as it is sure to inflict damage upon both parties. It has
been long enough since the last major political scandal that serious corruption
has been allowed to build back up on both sides of the aisle. Maybe what we need
is a good housecleaning. It matters not to yours truly if you are Republican or
Democrat--if you are on the take, I want you out!
It should be very interesting to see how this plays out, and to see what impact
it has on elections in the Fall. I for one am looking forward to some fresh
blood in Congress. Maybe we will actually be able to get some things done, and
get rid of the status quo.
