A Fallen Brother's Family is Surrounded by Patriots

Today, representatives of Task Force Omega of KY, Combat Vets MC, AMVETS, Vietnam Vets MC, VFW, Patriot Riders MC, and other groups (sorry for those not mentioned - crs disease!), gathered in support for a fallen brother, SFC John David Morton, KIA Kandahar, Afghanistan 12-15-2005.

This was a memorial service for SFC Morton in Powell County, at the Bowen First Church of God. SFC Morton is survived by his wife Sarah, and daughters Scarlette and Olivia, and son Joshua. The parents are Jerry and Pearl Morton. He also had two sisters Paula Noel and Deana Childers. SFC Morton is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. SFC Morton, 31, a 1992 Powell County High School graduate, was killed by small arms fire when his patrol came under attack by enemy forces. He was assigned to the 74th Infantry Long Range Surveillance, 173rd Airborne Brigade, "The Herd".

We knew in advance that the "phreaks" from Fred Phelps Westboro Baptist Church (not a real church), in Kansas, would be there to protest and celebrate this death. They carry signs stating "thank God for IEDs" and things like that. They are sick people whose mission it is to hate. Fred Phelps is a terrorist who has beaten his family members mercilessly, but a couple have escaped his mental and physical terrorism. If you do a search on the internet for Fred Phelps or one for Westboro Baptist Church you will find a biography on Fred Pehlps written by one of the escapees, and learn just how bad a terrorist he is. This man who professes Christianity is in effect doing the work of the anti-Christ. Phelps has perverted His word to push Phelps's own agenda of hate.

Our group of patriots arrived early to reconnoiter the area and make sure that the "Phelps phreaks" from Kansas were not in sight of the family of our fallen brother. This cannot be allowed at all cost. The Morton family has paid too high a price for our freedom and the freedom of others for these hate mongers to hurt them on their day of memorializing their son for the local community. Our mission could be described with one simple word, respect.

After following the instructions of the local law enforcement to park away from "protest permit" area that was set up for the of the Phelps phreaks, we waited for them to arrive. Right on time, like clockwork, they appeared in one car from KY, probably their sick follower from Harrodsburg, KY, and a white full size van from Kansas. As they approached the protest point, one of them said out the window to our group of men, "Hello girls." Apparently they were trying to incite trouble and incite trouble they did.

As they set up in the protest area with their neon colored hate signs, we stood in front of them closer to the road with American Flags flying high so that the phreaks could not very well be seen. I made sure to let them know that they were not acting as Christians, as they try to portray themselves to be. God does not hate sinners, He hates sin. Of course, if they would read and study the Holy Bible, instead of allowing terrorist Fred Phelps to misinterpret it for them, they would already know this. The most surprising thing to this patriot was that they had their children, small children, with them carrying hateful signs. What a travesty.

Our group and their group were somewhat close to one another, because there was not much room on that little country road, and at one point, one of their people stuck a foot into the stomach of one of our people who responded by pulling him from the van to the ground with him in order to protect himself. The next thing I knew, a couple more of our people jumped in to protect our brother who was in the midst of the hate mongers and fists were flying. The outstanding law enforcement people in Powell County quickly responded by separating us and removing those involved in the fray from the area. The Phelps phreaks loaded up and headed east. As they passed the church where the memorial service was taking place, they shouted a few hateful things and kept going. The family does not even know they were there. Mission accomplished! I guess they did not feel comfortable in the Valley of the Shadow of Death. They have no idea how lucky they were and how much restraint was shown by the patriots in attendance who had to witness the upside down American flags, the hate signs, and the negative slander, at a memorial service for a fallen soldier for Pete's sake!

News crews from Lexington, KY were in attendance and as can be seen from the email below, it came across real well for our side. Sometimes the media totally screws up, but not this time. Good job fellas.

We were requested to enter the church and pay respects to the family who set up in a special area to receive us only, and that was tough to do, but we did it. God bless these people and that young wife with three young children who will now be raising them without their father, a sacrifice of immeasurable proportion. There will never be enough that we can do for this family as is stated in John 15:13 (KJV) above.
