KentuckyVotes.org: Your representatives. Your issues. (Bowling Green, Kentucky) – Kentucky’s citizen-activists now have free access to a host of new tools that will help them track legislation like never before. KentuckyVotes.org, the new voter-information service, is offered as a free public service of the Bluegrass Institute for Public Policy Solutions and aims to give voters a complete online voting record for every legislator in the General Assembly. KentuckyVotes.org director Caleb O. Brown says the service will bring greater transparency to the 2006 legislative session. “Citizen-activists can sign up for free daily e-mails detailing legislative activity,” Brown said. “Finally, voters can react to proposed legislation before their representatives actually cast a vote.” Bluegrass Institute President Chris Derry says KentuckyVotes.org raises the bar for what constitutes an accountable legislature. “Now voters can exert their influence with the click of a mouse button.” Derry said. “Connecting directly to Frankfort’s legislative activities establishes a new era of grassroots activism across the Commonwealth.” KentuckyVotes.org already contains a complete record of every roll-call vote in the 2005 legislative session. In 2006, KentuckyVotes.org will cover General Assembly events as they transpire. The Bluegrass Institute is an independent research and educational institution offering free-market solutions to Kentucky's most pressing problems. Permission to reprint Perspective commentaries, in whole or in part, is hereby granted, provided the author and his affiliations are cited. Authors are available for interviews by contacting the Institute.
