Veto the VET Has Many People To Thank For Its Success

By Larry Brown

Veto the Vet would like to thank Governor Ernie Fletcher and the Cabinet of the Environment for their dedicated work to achieve what many thought impossible in SJR 3, ending tailpipe testing in Northern Kentucky.  Previous groups had attempted through Governor Patton’s administration to end this needless test, but received resistance and no assistance. This governor and the Environmental Cabinet began assisting us from the beginning.

I want to thank our Northern Kentucky caucus for helping educate the other 117 counties’ senators and legislators on the ineffectiveness of testing.

Paul Marcotte, Joe Fischer and Senator Roeding were leaders in getting this passed.  They helped everyone in Frankfort recognize that we want and can achieve clean air based on real science, not political science.

Once SJR# passed, the truly hard work of meeting very complicated EPA regulations began. It was here that the Cabinet of the Environment came through.  They took SJR3 seriously and made not one but numerous proposals to end testing. They wrote regulations to meet and exceed EPA rules and because of that effort, we stand here today.

I want to thank Sheila Merrell for her unending support. I want to thank the hundreds of people in Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties who called many times to get SJR3 written and passed.  And I again want to say thank you Governor Fletcher and his administration for ending tailpipe testing.”
