The Unfeeling, Cruel Left And The Death Tax By Theresa Fritz Camoriano
While liberals claim to be sensitive to people’s pain and frequently describe conservatives as being unfeeling and heartless, it seems to me just the opposite is true. For example, when it comes to liberals’ support for the estate tax (death tax), how can they be so insensitive to the pain that tax inflicts on innocent families as it takes away millions of dollars of their assets?
Have they considered the pain of a family that has to sell its family business or farm in order to pay the estate taxes? Or the pain of the employees of that family business who are no longer able to work for people with whom they have a personal bond of loyalty and trust? Or the pain of an entire community when a local family loses its farm or business due to estate taxes and the new corporate owner no longer supports the community’s charities and activities?
Have they imagined the pain of a man who has worked his entire life to amass assets to take care of his family only to realize that he is dying and will be prevented from passing those assets on to his family members, thus preventing his grandchildren from carrying out the dying man’s hopes and dreams for his family’s future?
Have they imagined how painful it would be if they had a child with a disability that required long term care and their parents were prevented by the estate tax from passing on their assets to provide that long term care?
The death tax is cruel, inflicts great pain on innocent people, and has no respect for people’s hopes, dreams, and needs. I cannot fathom how anyone with any sense of justice or compassion or with any sensitivity to the pain of other people could promote such a cruel policy.
Liberals like to use nice words to describe their policies, apparently believing that the policies themselves are nice. However, the people who come to collect taxes are not exactly sweetness and light. They come complete with boots, guns, and handcuffs – ready to throw you in jail if you don’t comply. If you don’t believe me, just refuse to pay taxes and let me know what happens. Conservatives may talk about the dry concept of protecting property rights, but that really means protecting the hopes, dreams, and security of real, flesh and blood people. Have liberals become so dumbed down that they are more persuaded by nice-sounding fairy-tale words than by reality? Thank goodness conservatives still understand the difference.
