Terry’s Tidbits

By Terry Gray

August 29, 2005

“Where is it written in the Constitution that you may take children from their parents, and parents from their children, and compel them to fight the battles of any war in which the folly or wickedness of government may engage it?”

Daniel Webster

Bonzo IS in Washington

I’ve got some questions and some input for George Bush.  First let me say that I’m a registered Republican with reservations.  I don’t buy most of the garbage that the Republican politicians spit out, but I don’t like most Democrats.  Libertarians can’t get elected because the Big 2 lock them out.  So in essence I’m a Libertarian in Republican clothing.

Bush’s new kick is to amend OUR Constitution, you know, the rules by which we live.  He thinks he is smarter than those who originally wrote the book.  Those old boys would make fun of you until you cried, George.

Listen to me, amending the Constitution to forbid flag desecration is NOT going to make people patriotic.  If anything, people will hate you even more, if that is possible.  When you ask someone to please be quiet, they may listen to you, but when you demand that people shut up they are likely to tell you to go to hell.  A leader would never dream of demanding patriotism; a true leader will lead us there.

George, desecrating a symbol is far less harmful than amending the rules of a nation to stop that desecration.  But more than that, George, the rules are not the government’s to amend.  They belong to the people.  They protect the people from the likes of your regime, and you have no business monkeying with them.

Let me tell you what is patriotic, George.  Patriotism is kicking the ass of a flag burner.  If you want to see patriotism at work without government demanding that we worship our flag, try to find someone burning a flag and then watch him get his ass kicked.  If you want to instill patriotism, then legalize the “ass kicking of flag burners” and step aside.  The problem is that, from what I know, the only people burning the American flag are the people whose countries you have invaded.

Bonzo Again.

Last week, Bush said that we need to attack terrorists in their land.  I was amazed that the president would advocate that American citizens attack Washington.

While we are on Bush, I need to comment about Cindy Sheehan.  She may be left-winged, but we really don’t know that.  Her stance has attracted left-wingers for sure, but I don’t think she set out with the idea in mind to promote left-wing ideologies.  I think she really wants some answers and has taken her questions to the person responsible for her son’s death.  And yes, Bush is responsible for Mr. Sheehan’s death.  He sent him to Iraq to “fight for America”.  He wasn’t fighting for America when he was killed.  He was fighting a war that our government started and which requires pawns to die.

Before any of you, left, right or moderate, get out of your comfy chairs and scream your support or distain of Cindy Sheehan, please take note; she is out there and involved.  She has put a lot on the line and has only asked for answers.  We all ask for answers from our government, and when we don’t get answers, most of us quit asking.

I respect her perseverance.  She is like a beagle on a scent.  Most people with opinions of Ms. Sheehan won’t leave their chairs to vote and are only attracted by the scent of dinner.  She has a right to ask and a right to be answered by our government.

Louisville Board of Health

Our Board of Health has a goal of 48 stroke deaths per 100,000 Louisvillians by 2010.  If there are only 47 on December 31, 2010, how will they decide who must die that day?  Will they hang out in hospitals in grim reaper suits, jumping out of closets at those at risk?

If the 49th death occurs exactly a midnight on December 31, 2010 you can rest assured that Troutman will be there elbowing the coroner to fudge the time.  They don’t like real facts and figures down there.  They prefer to deal with estimates, projections and propaganda.

For the Kids

I’m tired of it.  The Jefferson County School Board just raised property taxes again.  Every year they do this and every year they raise it by the maximum amount.

Our schools are nothing more than venues for social engineering, paid for by property owners.  Many people paying higher property taxes to support a socialist program do not have kids in schools and many don’t approve of our public school system of education.

"This goes against every fiber of my body to vote for a tax increase, but this is for the kids," Pat O'Leary of the School Board said.  Obviously her fiber of being is not a very strong fiber, but what can we expect from a societal leech?  And our educational system is not just “for the children”.  It provides jobs to those who otherwise are unemployable, like teachers and coaches.  It provides social engineering for our future generations, generations that will grow up to worship government because they know no better.

For the past few decades, our nation’s economy has grown more and more dependent upon the Goods and Services sector while our farm industries have declined by 25 million workers since 1900 and our industries have followed suit.  As we continue to educate our kids in how to use their socially engineered brains to don suits and contribute nearly nothing to our economy, our toilets become disposable because there is no one to fix them, our food will be raised on corporate farms with little competition, and our craftsmen find themselves left out in the cold.  “But it is for the children.”  I predict a time when it will be illegal to raise one’s own food.

The next generation or two is going to find itself in a mess.  There will be an abundance of civil engineers who can design roads but no one to build them.  There will be an abundance of accountants who can juggle figures but their juggling will mean nothing to those dressed in business suits looking for work.  There will be no one to fix our toilets.

I can’t help but wonder what goes through the minds of those so intent upon education.  There is much more to education than books. Dirty hands soiled from honest work are not a sin.  Our kids, while poring over the few “want ads”, will snub their noses at those in coveralls and wonder how they are going to make their next BMW payment.  All the while, our teachers and government will push for more and more education so as to keep our teachers employed and our government in the business of social engineering.

More Bonzos

Great news today from some little government weasel who stood timidly in front of the television cameras and told us that the government is going to ease the gas crunch by requiring that vehicles get better gas mileage by 2011.

The requirements for this new mileage law are simple.  Vehicles must improve mileage from the average today of 21 mpg to 23 mpg.  So 6 years from now our vehicles are going to be 2 mpg more efficient?  Actually that doesn’t sound so bad when you consider that in 6 years gas will be $14 per gallon, but what about now?

I’m not an advocate of the government getting involved in business.  However, in the case of gas and oil, the government is involved – up to their necks.  With oil companies showing record profits and politicians standing in line for their oil perks we should actually wonder why we have been spared the pillaging for so long.

Cross-eyed Governor

Not long ago, the governor of Illinois was telling his citizens to buy prescription medications from Canada.  He stood up to the feds and insisted that people had a right to buy products from the cheapest source.  Way to go!

Today that same governor is chasing down smokers who bought tobacco from other states.  Smokers saved a lot of money by avoiding high Illinois tobacco taxes.  The governor says that doing this is illegal, and tax bills continue to be printed and sent to those whose names appear on the large list of people who ordered smokes over the internet.

It seems pretty obvious to me that it’s all about money.  But hey, I’ve been saying this for years.

In our constitution, Article 1, sections 9 and 10 clearly state that no tax or duty shall be laid on articles imported from another state and that no state shall lay any imposts or duties on imports or exports.  This is one more fine example of our constitution being stomped upon by government.
