“[State controlled] education is a weapon, whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.” – Joseph Stalin

"[I]f you serve a child a rotten hamburger in America, federal, state, and local agencies will investigate you, summon you, close you down, whatever.  But if you provide a child with a rotten education, nothing happens, except that you're liable to be given more money to do it with."

--Ronald Reagan

“Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.” - Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (1870-1924)

“It is hard to see how people who are opposed to faith-based organizations can support the dogmas of the schools of education or the multiculturalists.” – Thomas Sowell

The Real Scandal         By Theresa Fritz Camoriano

As I read the headlines, “A Corrupt Political Machine?”, fanning the flames of scandal over Kentucky state government’s hiring practices, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.  I understand that the editors of the newspaper hate the current administration, and scandals sell newspapers, so it doesn’t surprise me that the newspaper is doing all it can to cook up a scandal over this matter.  However, I have to wonder why it is spending so much front page ink on such a petty story while, at the same time, it is ignoring some very serious scandals that really do deserve attention.

KDE’s rules change: Is it illegal?          By Jim Waters of The Bluegrass Institute

(Bowling Green, Kentucky) – The release of Kentucky’s 2005 No Child Left Behind (NCLB) report this week raises new concerns about whether the interests of the commonwealth’s students and their parents are being protected.

Continuing a trend that began right after NCLB was passed, Kentucky’s education establishment changed reporting rules for the third time in three years. Consistently, it promotes ways that protect the vested interests of the education system with seemingly little concern for its customers.

A Perfect Ensemble          By Gordon F. Corbett

Every so often, I encounter phenomena that form what the French call an "ensemble."  An ensemble is a group of things that fit together perfectly.  For example, there are groups of musicians, called "ensembles," who specialize in playing beautiful classical music.  Each musician's instrument, and his expertise in playing it, so complement every other musician's instrument and proficiency that they all fit together perfectly.

Lessons from the Kelo decision          By Dr. Ron Paul

One week after the Kelo decision by the Supreme Court, Americans are still reeling from the shock of having our nation’s highest tribunal endorse using government power to condemn private homes to benefit property developers.

Even as we celebrate our independence from England this July 4, we find ourselves increasingly enslaved by petty bureaucrats at every level of government. The anger engendered by the Kelo case certainly resonates on this holiday that is based on rebellion against government. The silver lining in the Kelo case may be that the veneer of government benevolence is being challenged.

REMARKABLE STUPIDITY        By Terry Gray

A recent story in the Louisville Courier-Journal by Ellen Call and Tina Ward-Pugh needs to be answered in full.  I hope that the Courier-Journal will do its readers the honor of allowing them the other side of the smoking ban issue.

I have been involved in the smoking ban issue for 3 years, researching this issue and collecting information from many sources.  I take exception to the presentation made by Ms. Call and Ms. Ward-Pugh.

“Free Trade”: the big lie about CAFTA!         By John William Kurowski,   American Constitutional Research Service

USATODAY.com - House narrowly passes free-trade pact

Well, leave it to the politically controlled big media to portray CAFTA as a free trade agreement.

The truth is, CAFTA is not about free trade, as our politically controlled big media pretends. It’s about a “managed trade” situation in which Congress, the people’s elected representatives, no longer manage and regulate America’s Commerce with foreign nations as intended by our founding fathers and mandated by our written Constitution!

Turning Christianity into a Hobby.         By Justin Darr

If obstructionism by Senate Democrats of President Bush’s political and judicial appointments has taught us anything about the nature of the goals of liberalism, it is they detest Christianity, or any religious faith which has the audacity to hold opinions contrary to their own.  Senator Charles Schumer may want to try to perform a song and dance around Article VI of the Constitution, banning “religious tests” in the confirmation process of official appointments, by replacing the words “religious beliefs” with “deeply held personal beliefs,” but the results are the same.  Liberals are discriminating against people of faith under the hypocritical guise of “tolerance” to ban them from public office and diminish their influence on society.

Why Bad Things Happen To White People        By Jonathan David Morris

Cable news and missing white girls.

Missing white girls and cable news.

The two go together like chocolate and peanut butter. From Chandra Levy and Elizabeth Smart to Laci Peterson and Natalee Holloway, it’s impossible to imagine a moderately attractive white female disappearing these days without Fox News and CNN rushing to the scene.

Terry’s Tidbits         By Terry Gray

No Homework, No Sex

The 42 year old teacher in New York who had sex with underage students was obviously very concerned with the education of her students.  I wish that at the age of 16 or 17 I had enjoyed a teacher with such a conscientious attitude.  Ms. Dumpy used to rap us on the knuckles for not having our homework and never even kissed us for a job well done.

"You may have read about the controversy involving Ken Tomlinson, that dirty old conservative who heads up the Corporation for Public

Broadcasting.   Democrats and liberals (mostly one and the same) have

complained because Tomlinson wants to bring political balance to the generally left-leaning, tax financed National Public Radio. It seems to me there is an easy way to solve the problem.  Abolish the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, National Public Radio and any other propaganda outlet financed by your tax money and mine. It is an outrage that the thieves in both parties who dominate congress can use tax revenues for no good purpose, including the financing of propaganda outlets. I say this knowing full well ain't nothing going to change: we are stuck with CPB and NPR, mainly because you, the voters don't give a darn or don't make your objections known and if you're content to let Congress squander your money on illegitimate programs the Congress will certainly continue to squander it with the tacit consent of the president.  These guys are interested in buying votes; they're not interested in governing well." --Lyn Nofziger

“My thesis is that the free market economy is the key to all freedoms. In fact, the market and freedom are really synonymous terms. If the market is totally free, each person has complete freedom of speech, press, and religion. But if the market is totally controlled, there is no freedom in those or any other areas.”— Dean Russel

Free State Project

“The government forces those who sell pharmaceutical drugs to list the possible side effects, even if only a few people will suffer those side effects. Unfortunately, the government itself never tells us about the bad side effects of the things it prescribes.” – Thomas Sowell

"If 'Thou shalt not covet' and 'Thou shalt not steal' were not commandments of Heaven, they must be made inviolable precepts in every society before it can be civilized or made free." --John Adams
