The Flag Burning Argumentby Jeff “Mario” Smith, Guerilla ReporterJuly 18th, in the Year of our Lord 2005
Never, in this alleged Constitutional Republic, where the free expression of ideas and thoughts is highly revered, is a discussion more completely and utterly perverted than in the flag burning or flag desecration argument. When a builder frames a house, he does not use toothpicks, he uses strong wood or steel, and sets that framing hardware into concrete. Why then, have we as a people, allowed communist pawns at the ACLU, and elsewhere, to pervert “free speech” into including something they call “expressive behavior”?
Webster’s 1828 dictionary defines “speech” as: 1. The faculty of uttering articulate sounds or words, as in human beings; the faculty of expressing thoughts by words or articulate sounds. Speech was given to man by his Creator for the noblest purposes. 2. Language; words as expressing ideas. The acts of God to human ears cannot without process of speech be told. 3. A particular language, as distinct form others. Ps. 19. 4. That which is spoken; words uttered in connection and expressing thoughts. You smile at my speech. 5. Talk; mention; common saying. The duke did of me demand, what was the speech among the Londoners concerning the French journey. 6. Formal discourse in public; oration; harangue. The member has made his first speech in the legislature. 7. Any declaration of thoughts. I, with leave of speech implor'd, repli'd.
Notice, if you will, that not once, not twice, but three times Webster called upon biblical truths to provide the definition of the word “speech”. He rightly tells us that speech was given to us by the Creator, and from listening to some of our opponents on this issue, apparently He was a little too nice in whom He endowed with this method of communication. Or was He?
If the leftist promoters of “free speech”, used for everything but speech, actually had the ability to speak, why then do they defend the use of flag burning as speech? It seems obvious that if those who engage in this negative, offensive, hateful, and disrespectful activity could really speak with any intelligence at all, they would not have to resort to the act of defiling the symbol of our Christian nation, Old Glory, which has been, and still is, carried into battle while protecting our Liberty.
I know this to be true. Every generation of my family has put it on the line for our Liberty. We don’t have to go all the way back to WWII, although we can, to find someone in our family who actually served his country as so many liberals seem to have to do. Isn’t that telling? To those who cite their father or grandfather’s service to God and country, and have to go back that far to cite an example of military service in their family, I ask, what happened to your family that you have to look that far back? I respect your father or grandfather, but what have you been doing, suckling at the sow?
Citing Psalm 19, a Psalm of David to the chief Musician, Webster gives the definition of speech as “a particular language, as distinct form others. Ps. 19”. In that particular Psalm’s verse 2 it states, “Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.” I suggest there is no knowledge gained from flag-desecration, only disrespect and hate. Likewise, here again, Webster proves to us that we are indeed a Christian nation based upon Christian principles like the Ten Commandments.
Speaking of these unintelligent beings, who have to burn things to “speak”, Webster also defines “speechless” as”: 1. Destitute or deprived of the faculty of speech. More generally, 2. Mute; silent; not speaking for a time. Speechless with wonder, and half dead with fear.
Ahh, a man after my own heart! I think “mute”, “deprived”, and “with wonder” very aptly define these hateful and disrespectful beings who engage in this act. As a matter of fact, I can guarantee you that if this activity is propagated in my presence, there will be some “half dead with fear” as I adjust their attitude exercising my “free speech” in a “speechless” act of “expressive behavior”. If it is free speech for a thankless fool to burn our flag, then I contend it is free speech for me to bash his head in. What? You mean I don’t have free speech? Imagine that!
There are many instances in our society where “expressive behavior is unlawful. The hateful Ku Klux Klan does not have free speech when they burn a cross in the yard of someone they hate. This act of “expressive behavior” is unlawful, being declared a hate crime. Why then is it ok for leftists who hate America to burn the flag? Come on people, you cannot have your cake and eat it too. Which is it?
Likewise, the “expressive behaviors” of threatening another person, spitting on someone, speaking in a provoking manner, inciting a riot, and throwing a brick through someone’s window are outlawed with punitive results for those who engage in these activities. Only someone who hates America, what America stands for, her Christian heritage, or themselves, would fall to the place where they would desecrate the very symbol that good men died to protect and bequeath to them.
Have we, as a people, allowed ourselves to be so dumbed-down we can be convinced by a bunch of anti-American godless pawns that the disrespectful act of burning a flag, or any other speechless act for that matter, is free speech? If non-speech is speech, is that not akin to stating that disrespect is the same as respect? Is black white? Is red green? I suggest if you tell a pilot that cloudy is clear, you will soon hear him ask for a second opinion.
If a majority of Americans continue to allow the controllers of information in our society to pervert and change words from their true meanings in order to push their agenda, then I suggest we are on a decline into a pit from which there is no escape. No matter the argument, if truth is not a part of that argument, then the results of said argument are fruitless. One short look at many Supreme Court rulings quickly proves that our liberal activist judges appreciate these perversions. This is how leftists in our society have succeeded in forcing their naïve and communist inspired agenda upon us – by changing the meanings of words, and framing arguments out of context, using toothpicks for studs.
This article was inspired through Jeff’s viewing of the KET program KET Tonight which was about the Flag Amendment and included a representative from the ACLU. Jeff “Mario” Smith is a Veteran from a long line of Veterans, who have been in America since their indentured servant ancestor Edward Doughton, who was the only indentured servant that signed the Mayflower Compact, arrived on the Mayflower. All American wars, and periods of alleged “peace”, have seen the service of Smith men, or their ancestors by other surnames, who do not shy away from service to God and country. Jeff’s son is currently serving in the War Against Terror in an undisclosed AIRBORNE unit somewhere. As a member of Task Force Omega of KY, Jeff is a POW MIA activist whose adopted POWs are CW4 William P. Milliner, and LTC Earl Hopper, Jr. Jeff wears a black bracelet bearing the name of PFC Stephen E. Burton, KIA, 9-24-1966 [WALL 11E-006] killed in Vietnam serving as an AIRBORNE Infantryman with the 101st Airborne, Air Mobile, fighting against the aggression of godless communists. Steve was a friend of Jeff’s brother Scott, also a Vietnam Veteran having served with the famed 173rd AIRBORNE INFANTRY in 1967 and 1968. MSG Scott D. Smith (Ret) was two weeks behind his high school friend Stephen E. Burton in AIRBORNE Jump School at Fort Benning, GA in 1966. The Smith family, having been blessed with the return of their warrior from that war, will never forget the sacrifice of the Burton family, EVER. _______________________________________________________________
