“Europe’s Statist Nightmare — Beginning of the
End?” by Kishore Jayabalan
Voters in France have rejected the EU
constitution, with the Dutch expected to
follow suit today. The arrogance and
centralizing tendencies of European
political class may finally have hit a
roadblock. “The clearest lesson of the
failed referendum is that Europe’s
governing elite has suffered a
tremendous defeat, a symptom of its
growing democratic deficit,” writes
Kishore Jayabalan, director of Acton’s
Rome office.

United States charity programs that receive
little to no government funding and that agree
that effective charity is rooted in the unique

Institute Senior Fellow Marvin Olasky delivered
a lecture entitled "The Angel in the Details:
Compassionate Conservatism's Opportunities and
Perils." The author of The Tragedy of
American Compassion and advisor to President
George W. Bush related his thoughts on how
conservative principles could advance in
Washington and throughout American society, and
also pointed out some of the pitfalls that await
conservatives as they work to advance their
goals. |
