From liberty lover
Snarlin' Arlen strikes again --as we predicted when we supported Pat Toomey
against Specter last November. Only President Bush's trip to PA put this
troublemaker over the line and prevented the conservative Toomey from winning.
The NRA let us down in that race, as well, by going in support of the incumbent
--as the political establishment is wont to do.
From
John Hallman of Freedom Works:
Hey
Guys, read this and please call your US Rep, if
they are Republican and urge them to support and
CO-SPONSOR HB 1957. Also, please pass this on to others.
Thanks, John
Aggressive trial lawyers continue to cash in on
asbestos lawsuits, bankrupting American businesses and
siphoning off hundreds of millions of dollars that
would be better used to compensate victims of
asbestos-related illness. Indeed, over 70 companies
have already been driven into bankruptcy by junk
asbestos lawsuits.
Congress needs to fix the problem. Unfortunately,
Senator Arlen Specter is pushing "Trust Fund"
legislation that would make matters worse by creating a
new $140 billion government program to pay out asbestos
claims. This staggering level of funding would come
from a new tax taken from companies, many of them only
remotely related to asbestos. The ultimate effect will
be lost jobs, higher prices, and a weaker economy. The
last thing American industry needs is a wave of
bankruptcies and another entitlement black hole
guaranteed to swell the budget deficit.
Let's fix the underlying legal problem--not create a
new tax-and-spend program. Rep. Cannon's "Asbestos
Compensation Fairness Act of 2005" provides certainty
in asbestos suits by using objective medical criteria
derived from the American Medical Association.
This legislation, introduced by Representative Chris
Cannon, stops asbestos lawsuit abuse while allowing
real victims to receive just compensation.
Please tell your US Representative to vote NO on the
Asbestos Trust Fund and instead CO-SPONSOR Rep.
Cannon's strict medical criteria legislation-Asbestos
Compensation Fairness Act of 2005.
If you have a Republican US Representaive please call
them and urge them to support and co-sponsor HR 1957
"The Asbestos Compensation Fairness Act of 2005."
