Bullet Points

By Theresa Fritz Camoriano

·                    If we want to have a stable, prosperous society, we need to respect the rule of law.  That means we need judges with integrity, who respect the plain meaning of the law and its original intent, not corrupt judges who make up the law as they go along.  If the rules of the game are constantly changing and the law can be twisted by judges to mean anything they want, then we are just another banana republic.  What intelligent business person would make a large, long-term investment in a place where a judge could suddenly ignore the law and take away his property?  What protection will there be for minorities or for anyone else if a judge can simply ignore the law and rule any way he wants?  That is why it is absolutely critical for President Bush to nominate judges who respect the law and why the Senate must confirm those judges.  If the Republicans fail at this task, they are of no use to the American people and should be banished from government for the next fifty years.  See also Thomas Sowell :  Judicial ad-libbing creates a large area of uncertainty, making the law a trap for honest people and a bonanza for the unscrupulous. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/thomassowell/ts20050426.shtml

·                    How can the Democrats keep a straight face when they say it is less risky to let politicians control your retirement money than for you to control it yourself?  It is hard to imagine a group that is more irresponsible with money or more fickle than politicians!  As soon as the political winds blow in a different direction and our children and grandchildren can no longer afford to support the current system, you can bet the promises being made today will evaporate in the breeze.  It won’t make much difference to you if you are as wealthy as most politicians, but, for regular working folks, having control over our retirement money and being able to save that nest egg and pass it on to our heirs can provide our families the kind of security they never could have under the current system.

·                    I think it’s time to level the playing field.  As it stands today, the taxpayers are at a real disadvantage compared to the bureaucrats and various parasites who live off of our taxes.  The parasites use our tax money to lobby for more of the loot, while the rest of us have no time to lobby, since we are so busy working to support our families and pay the taxes.  Maybe it is time to prohibit anyone who receives government benefits or funding from lobbying the government for more.  Maybe it is time to shift to zero based budgeting, in which anyone who wants to receive government funding must make his case every time he asks for money.  Maybe it is time to shift responsibility and funding to the lowest possible level of government so it will be closer to the people and will be more accountable to them.  Maybe it is time to require all politicians actually to read the spending bills before voting on them!
