Award-winning entrepreneur to chair Bluegrass Institute
Gornik is founder and owner of Lexington-based THIEL Audio Products, a privately held, engineering-driven organization that researches, designs and manufactures 13 models of high-performance loudspeakers for the home and office. Her company, which was started by three people in a garage in 1977, has grown to become an international leader in the consumer electronics industry with sales in 34 different countries. “As a long-time business owner in Kentucky and someone who has deeply appreciated the benefits of free markets, property rights and limited government, the Bluegrass Institute is a wonderful opportunity for me to work for these important principles here in Kentucky,” Gornik said. “The institute’s constructive, positive approach of providing research-based solutions to particular problems facing Kentucky offers a much-needed alternative to wasteful and ineffective partisan politics.” Gornik is immediate past-Chairman of the Consumer Electronic Association, which represents 1,700 member companies with more than $121 billion in annual sales. She was named one of the “Top 40 Women in Business” by the Lane Report and is a past recipient of the “Kentucky/Southern Indiana Entrepreneur of the Year” award sponsored by Ernst and Young Inc. Magazine and Merrill Lynch. “Kathy’s proven entrepreneurial ability and staunch support of liberty make her the ideal choice to lead the institute in its mission of changing the way Kentuckians think about government,” said Chris Derry, president and past chairman of the institute. “Her self-made success is directly attributable to an unwavering belief in the power of free markets and limited government to create new opportunities for all Kentuckians.” For interview information, contact Jim Waters, director of policy and communications for the Bluegrass Institute.
