Why are so many people anxious to kill Terri Schiavo? By Tom Crane
Why are so many people anxious to kill Terri Schiavo? Her parents are willing to take over her care, but her husband is exercising his "property" rights while he is living with another woman and has two children by her. Of course it has been reported that Michael Schiavo has said that, "Terri would not want a divorce."
Terri was not on any other type of life support other than being fed through a tube. Every one of her organs was functional. Hunger and thirst were the two weapons that were used to bring her down. Starvation and cremation were the weapons that were used by the Nazis against 6 million Jews.
It has also been reported that the money that was awarded to Michael Schiavo because of the circumstances that brought about her original medical condition was intended for Terri's care. Instead, it was spent on lawyers by Michael Schiavo in order to get permission to "Kill" Terri instead.
Then again, why is Michael Schiavo intent on cremating her remains instead of offering her a Catholic burial? Cover-up of the evidence? Broken bones on the corpse? If he is allowed to follow his wishes, are not the judges guilty of covering up a crime if evidence of previous abuse is there? If Terri is cremated, we will never know.
I really believe that time will tell. Michael and all the judges have had their say, but death is the Great Leveler of humankind. Everyone suffers the ravages of death, and eventually those who brought Terri down will have to face similar circumstances when their life ends. It will be interesting to see how the drama of life and death plays out for everyone who wanted Terri dead.
Although Michael may have won in the courts, he has lost in the field of public opinion, and that is not the type of cross I would want to bear. After all is said and done, he will still have to look at himself in the mirror. If in his mind he sees innocence and truth, then fine for him, but I doubt that will be the case. His every move through life will be watched and observed by those who witnessed this drama unfold; his only escape will come in the loneliness of the night, and that is when he will have to deal with the thoughts that are in his own mind.
The "Saga" of Terri will live on. She will become a symbol of all that went wrong in the battle to preserve the sanctity of life. There are many parallels in the Passion of the Christ and what Terri Schiavo endured. It was very fitting and dramatic that in all of the 15 years that this battle has been waged, the climax came about during one of the holiest Christian weeks of the year. For all practical purposes, Terri will become a Saint in the battle for those who cherish life. Michael Schiavo may have won in the courts, but everywhere he goes, he will find remembrances of her and the taste of victory will be bitter, indeed. Her legacy will live in songs, books and poems. Although her life may have been stifled, her memory will always live on.
Pray for Terri that she does not suffer too long.
As for Michael, he still has to face his God.
God bless, (An old Irish saying)
