Terri Schiavo - A Perspective By Thomas Crane
I have come to the conclusion that Terri Schiavo's plight has come about due to the fact that America has become overly obsessed with litigation. That, in addition to the fact that her case has developed into something of a "turf" war. In other words, certain "Powers That Be" become very offended when someone else attempts to encroach upon their territory. I am referring to the ruling powers or authorities in our Nation.
In effect, what we have are a bunch of vainglorious people running around telling the rest of us what we should or should not do while, at the same time, they fight among themselves. In the meantime, what they are doing is running up a big bill which, in one way or another, we will all have to pay. When all is said and done, while they put poor Terri to rest, there well be a number of well publicized and well connected people involved in her case booking passage on flights to exotic places.
To sum it all up, I would have to say that it is like an automobile accident. While people are standing around accusing each other as to who was right or who was wrong in causing the accident, one of the passengers is laying bleeding to death at the curb. To make things even worse, even the police are involved in the argument.
It has all turned out to be a very, very, sad case and I hope that the next time around people will begin to realize that a human life was or, at this time, is at stake. While some may argue as to the quality of life that Terri was experiencing, there are those among us who get excited at the thought that there just might be some basic life forms on the Planet Mars. I guess that it all depends upon one's own perspective of what life really is.
Best wishes, Thomas Crane
