H.R. 235 vs. Tax Reform

By Richard Lewis

On Sunday April 3, 2005 the nationwide Coral Ridge Hour devoted half of its broadcast airtime to "Free Speech For Pastors".

The broadcast  explained the political impact American ministers have had on our nation, promoted a book titled "Gag Order" and encouraged viewers to ask congress to pass  H.R. 235 "The Houses of Worship Free Speech Restoration Act of 2005".

I contacted the Center For Reclaiming America on Monday April 4, 2005 and asked if they had considered how the President’s tax reform proposal could impact or even eliminate all 501 C3 tax exemptions?

If the income tax is replaced with a consumption tax as Congressman John Linder (R) of Georgia proposes, how could government extend a tax credit to anyone who donates to a church or charity?

The spokesman for Center For Reclaiming America advised me that the "tax reform" issue was not included among their working issues.
