HB 443 Update

The passage of this bill will be a good thing. Flying the POW MIA flag at all interstate rest areas tells our fellow Americans who travel to, or through, Kentucky that we care, and "We will never forget." The cost will be minimal due to the use of the same flagpoles which already are present and already fly the Old Glory. The added weight and wind resistance of the additional flag is minimal and will not require any flagpoles to be stiffened or strengthened.

This is a small yet symbolic gesture that says a lot about the people of our Commonwealth, and reminds travelers that all of our military have not been returned to us by our enemies, and we know it, and we will never forget them and their families who have been asked to give too much.

The last time we tried to get this done, our illustrious legislature made the added requirement that an additional flagpole be utilized which effectively killed the bill due to its outrageous cost to taxpayers. This time, they are approaching it the correct way.

Please ask that your representative support this bill. The vote should be unanimous in support, but I know of at least one representative who considers the flag to represent extremists, and another who supports her. May they lose this time.

You can call the Legislator Message Line at 1-800-372-7181 and leave a message not only for you representative but for all legislators on the "Appropriations and Revenue Committee".

To: Appropariations and Revenue Committee

Please help us by supporting HB 443, a bill that would require the POW/MIA flag to be flown at all rest areas in the Commonwealth of Kentucky's interstate and turnpike systems, on the same pole, as the flag of the United States of America, every day the US Flag is flown. Please Support this bill. This is a good bill, and the right thing to do.
